When he gets to her home, he sees her outside, gardening. But by now, she is 62, with a husband and grandchildren. Shadow doesn’t think it’s her for a moment, before she looks up and sees him. She is shocked at first, but then smiles, tearing up and greeting him happily. Shadow realizes it IS her, and can’t help but tear up as well, overjoyed that his best friend was still here.

Not gonna lie, I would enjoy this if pulled off well. Though the adoption aspect brings to mind questions. Does G.U.N seize Gerald's assets, or does Maria inherent them legally so long as she keeps her mouth shut?

I think the way to do it is to either make Maria a conflict generating supporting character(she tries to do good, but fucks up and makes things worse), or have her for whatever reason join the Egg Army and make her an anti-villain.
In any case, if you bring Maria back, you have to utterly DESTROY the perfect angel image Shadow has of her. Make her flawed, and make it clear that Shadow's rose-tinted glasses are on too tight.

What happened is that he moved on. He still cares for Maria, but he's gotten out of his angst phase.
He'd certainly be overjoyed to see her alive again. ... That is, until she starts making plans to make everyone in the world happy like she wanted, and it turns out her cousin has the right idea of how to do it. Because his attempts to take over the world are surely to instill peace and order in the world... right?
I don't read the comics at all I just consume alternate media for comic characters like Cartoons Movies and Video Games. The best cartoon for Spider-Man is Spetacular
Think about it: He had a fairly good start despite doubts of his success, became more popular than his competitors for a while, then had one bad slip up and never properly recovered for another decade or so.
I still liked both of the Amazing films, though.

user, tell me one way giving Modern Sonic Boom Sonic's personality wouldn't be a major improvement. It still has Sonic's compassion, but he isn't a goddamn saint. Now I can tell the difference, but I like Drake Bell's Spidey more. His voice sounds similar to Keaton's, but he can pull off a lot more emotional range. He's the Mike Pollock of Spider-Man.
Overwatch is AAA and had a huge marketing push, so it doesn't really count.
I'm talking about games like Shovel Knight and FNAF, where they more or less came out of nowhere and hit it big. Nearly every indie game this year fell on its face (MN9, NMS) or just fizzled out a shortly after launch (HLD, Furi).
The only remaining candidates are Gunvolt 2 and HGH, and they probably won't fare much better than their predecessors (yes I know GV2 just came out).
