Should the Sticky use an update? I noticed some of the info is fairly wrong especially when combining generations. And also doesn't account for that some cars are rebounding and not as cheap anymore.
For example:
>combines preludes into 1990-2001
>should really be 1988-2001 if it wants to combine generations.
>not all of them used ATTS. 3rd gens didn't have it.
>H22 only came in 5th gens and rare in 4th.
>no mention of 4WS
>no mention of how unreliable 90-91's are due to engine redesign.

Another example:
>blankets all subaru wagons/SUVs as reliable
>despite mentioning failing headgaskets (which are pretty expensive/inconvenient to replace) in the N/A 2.5L up to 2005 and somewhat until 2011.
>no mention of pre 2002 2.2L impreza wagons which are more or less the same thing just smaller, cheaper and more reliable (but rusty).
>no mention of 2005-2009 subarus which are great alternatives to WRX if they want turbos.

Also Foxbodies are beginning to not be cheap. People are starting to ask a lot more for them despite their quality deteriorating.

Also, WRX should plain just be removed from it. Few people ever puts their's up for less than $6K and are incredibly stiff about pricing. It should really just be an honorable mention at this point.

>implying anyone cares about buying cars on Veeky Forums
It's horribly outdated and this has been talked about a million times.

The mods don't care enough to do that. Just look at all the shitposting that goes on. Chances are this will be on page 6 before you even get a legitimate reply.

Nobody pays attention to the sticky image anyways

Sticky does mention headgaskets on subarus.
>foxbodies
>not cheap

Sticky was updated late 2014/early 2015 IIRC.

I know, but I feel that automatically disqualifies it from being "a solid engine" considering how common it is.

Sticky is quasi-cancerous in the first place, since no one new reads it and everyone posts threads regardless.

It really needs an update I agree. It was a great resource for me when I started out but these days it's relly showing its age.

It's basically been updated once a year. I still have the master copy in excel if people really want to offer serious suggestions or edits

In regards to the Subaru/head gasket issue, I raised that concern at the time, but it was shouted down by a majority of people who claimed it wasn't serious enough to exclude it

Also, the cars were grouped by price only, not by generation, so the years listed were what could be found for 5K at the time it was last edited

I'm surprised the sticky doesn't include stuff like AW11, GT3000, Celica, IS300/200, SLK 230, Lincoln LS, etc

The only people that would defend most N/A subarus imo are fanboys. Its pretty much proven that the 2.5 N/A subarus were not very reliable from the factory and had a tendency to keep coming back if the gaskets weren't replaced with beefier ones. This is often something that can be lost to time with old as fuck cars.

Theres no controversy about the 2.2L or 2.5 Turbos (besides the turbos exploding on 2005 legacys/outbacks from the banjo bolt screen).

Also, you can get the 88-89 preludes for just as cheap. They're almost identical to 90-91's but are more reliable (might want to say avoid 90-91's due to burning EXCESSIVE oil). I'd say either extend it back to 88 and have a warning, or just cut it off at 1992.

It kinda does. It classifies the MR2 as a snowflake car.

cutting off at 92 would be the better suggestion, it's not really logical to recommend a car from the 80's to someone who doesn't know a ton about cars, which is the audience for the sticky anyway

>The only people that would defend most N/A subarus imo are fanboys
>fanboys

This is/was the hardest part about getting opinions from Veeky Forums for the sticky. People just want to fanboy for whatever car they like.

Do you just take these suggestions over time then submit a big edit at the end of the year? Or do you just make a thread?

Clean, non molested foxes are expensive as fuck nowadays, especially in the rust belt

If you can pull the heads off and get good gaskets and head studs that's literally the only thing wrong with the n/a ones. It's just a shitty gasket, the other 99% of the engine is great.
>a sticky is cancerous and cancerous fucktards who don't read it aren't

Nigger I bought a rust-free 5.0 with power everything (and it all works, mostly), manual, some tasteful upgrades like a short shifter and rear end gears for 2900 and that was with 2 sets of wheels. Cold have haggled down more but my inner jew isn't very strong. Car drove power tour just fine. 5 grand can still fetch a very nice fox or SN95A.

The sticky, and most cars ever, is targeted at people who just want a black box you put gas and oil into to get you around.

Nobody wants to pull two heads that are both in a shitty cramped area next to the fender wall balls deep in their engine bay just to make their car run. Fuck Subaru.

That's great for you, but still anecdotal. When did you buy it?

In the past I've just made a thread, that way I can go through everything at once and let people debate the suggestions

Year or two ago. If I look on CL right now I could probably find a dozen nice 5.0s.
Have you even read the sticky? Like half of it is fun cars.

Real question is why isn't the xj Cherokee on the sticky

.....it is

...

A bone stock clean 5.0/t5 fox that hasn't been modified will go for 5k minimum.

The sticky isn't about finding bone stock, completely clean cars. It's about finding a reasonably decent car for under 5K. On that account, you can still easily find fox bodies under 5K. My local CL has 6.

I'll sell mine in a heartbeat for 2k.

If anything I'd like to see model years updated or higher price brackets added to each group. I feel like the 8-18k price range should tossed in there.

Id be down to help work on it.

Model years do need to be updated

As far as higher price brackets, we tried it on the last revision. The higher price bracket would necessitate making an entire new chart (which could be done), as it just brings far too many more options into the fold to be worked into the existing chart.

Making a 5-10K or maybe a 10-15K chart would be fun and potentially super useful

So would it just be an entire separate excel sheet?

Could probably clear a lot of the threads being made today. Bench racing or not, lots of the same threads for slightly more expensive cars keep being being made.

If only banning for not reading the sticky could be enforced.

That would add some entry level luxury with power and some newer cars. Would make the sticky helpful for most people.

>blankets grand cherokees 93-2004
>doesn't mention not all v8's are 4.7
>doesn't mention the ZJ was a giant turd

>turd gen explorer
enough said
>no mention of turd OHC 4.0 on ford truck/suv

>w-bodies are on the list at all
you'll be putting half your gofast budget into the transmission just to handle the stock engine

>seriously putting the sketchy neon over the god tier j-bodies for poorfag cars

again all opinions unsupported by any facts

Seems good to me

Find LPG, he manages the Sticky.

And no it does not need an update.

bump for interest

you realize he's posted multiple times in this thread....right?

I just bought a truck recently and used the sticky as a starting point. I do agree that a lot of the info seemed out of date and not detailed enough to be super useful. However it was a great starting point for research, so thanks LPG for doing that.

Also in agreement about having different price brackets. I ended up getting a truck for $6k and it would have been nice to have an overview of what my "best" options were in that price range.
