She was a generic cartoon animal, her artstyle in the show made it a non-issue. It's only when the comics switched to more realistic proportions and anime-inspired artstyle that it became an issue.

For animals in general maybe, but I'm talking about talking cartoon animal characters. Cartoon and pre-70s Sally is no more offensive than Dot, for example.
I'd say a deer hit by car, but I think that's hard to translate into a costume.

I'm one of those grognards who remains unimpressed with S3&K on the grounds that it's two games, so from my perspective Mania definitely has the potential to be better than the entirety of the classic lineup.
Have her try to dress as a mummy, but Sage pulls the wraps too tight.
From what I've seen, the music is amazing so far, the levels are expanded upon a lot, and the ability to play as Tails and Knuckles again makes me hope they factored that into the level design and weren't just added in.
I think it has the ability to be better than all of them, although it could all still go horribly wrong. I have faith in ya Taxman and Stealth

I guess you mean the classic story they did?
If so, pushing Classic Sonic hard and the older games for the 20th ensured a classic story, and the in-universe reason was a Genesis Wave.
The second one was Penders and in universe Eggman fucking up Sonic fixing the Wave halfway through it.
All the talk of potentially closing boards and a new one is made.
So after the first Mega Man crossover, their universe got jumbled up just for the heck of it?
There was a story around 2010 that used a universe resetting plot device to justify a four issue anniversary celebration.
They used that plot device again to justify a Mega Man crossover, which led to a reboot due to legal issues.
Sigma came through and used the Genesis Portals that were lingering over from the first reality break and fucked shit up even more.
Now it's kinda fixed but still more around and still the Genesis Nexus thing.
The crossover asspulls a SUPER DUPER plot device. As Super Sonic fixes things, Eggman crashes into him, fucking everything up.
