I bought it in early '09 for USD$2,200 with a holey top, a leaking water pump, and the engine & undercarriage were covered in red, southern clay (had been in someone's yard during hurricane Katrina) but it still ran. I bought it as a 'project car' so I wouldn't over-mod my '06 STi. I like the Miata so much that I've sold the STi (largely to pay off college) and DD the miat.

The only issue I've had is the clutch's slave cylinder went out at around 210k miles; it cost me less than USD$100 to replace including brake fluid and a drainage tube.

It's in perfect goddamn shape, drives well, hits 125 mph (200 kph) topless and is the best-sounding NA 1.8 I've ever heard (see shitty video below). The A/C even still works very well despite having never been reloaded, which is nice is southern Alabama. The HLAs tick after about 50 min of driving tho.

It's incredibly clean all the way around, apparently the previous owner was a maintenance freak. No rust and the paint is good all the way around aside from a few small scrapes. literally the only problems are that the's a few windshield chips and the light in the stereo display is dead

To her it's just another car so when she heard the price compared to age she couldn't wrap her head around it. She also hates the design of the car itself. She's a mustangfagget which pains me but it makes going to dorifto races kind of interesting. She would much rather I go with a foxbody and wrench on that but I keep digging my heels in to get an NA or alternatively an AW11. One of these days I'll be able to pocket enough side cash to just get an NA without consulting her.
I can't blame you. I would be more than willing to make a drive to get one I was dead set on. The price is steep but I'm also factoring in the fact that WA is inordinately expensive in the first place. I did plan to try talking the owner down especially after getting under the car to really pick it apart. Maybe next time.
