Sticky is outdated. Best car under 6k USD?

Since the sticky is outdated as fuck, what do you br/o/s think is the best balance of performance/reliability under 8k CAD/ 6k USD?

The sticky is actually still up to date.

And a supercharged Cobalt is faster, even if they make similar power.
>almost a full second faster down the 1/4 mile
>Nurburgring tuned suspension

The Civic Si is fun but at that price, it's been beat to fuck to has way too many miles on it. And if your want an Si, the 07+ sedan is what you want. yes the coupe is lighter, but the sedan has a stiffer chassis.

I hear you. Btw this is my first time buying a car, at that price how many miles would be reasonable to accept?

Bump, any other suggestions?

How about a Civic Si

Em2/ep3

The sticky was updated only 2 years ago and the used car market actually hasn't changed all that much. Granted the sticky is based around the US market with a 5k budget. I'm assuming you're Canadian?

Try finding a 2002-2005 Honda Civic SIR (Si in USA, listed on the sticky in the hatchbacks section). I'd also look at the 2003-2005 Toyota Echo hatchback since Amerifat didn't get those. Also. Pontiac Firefly Turbo (pic related). Those were Canada only.

I'll check out the Firefly and I've seen a few SiR's on Kijiji. Were those a better gen?

Honestly, I'd rather drive a Civic than a slowbalt. Even if its faster. I hate the way the look. You can get a v8 mustang or f-body in 'merica for under 6.

The 02-05 Civic's weren't necessarily a better generation. They're cheaper because they're older, and until the 2017 model, they were the last Honda Civic hatchback sold in North America. Many Hondafags actually hate all 2001+ Civic's because the front suspension went from double wishbones to macpherson struts. There's nothing wrong with Macpherson struts. The Cobalt uses them, as does almost every other FWD car out there, and numerous RWD ones too. The problem for 2001-2005 Civic's was that Honda wasn't sure about the geometry. The front suspension geometry is MUCH better on 2006+ cars and they are therefor easier to get to handle extremely well. The 2001-2005 Civics aren't bad cars by any means, but it was a learning curve for Honda about macpherson struts.

>be me

Damnit why does our used car market suck

Used car maeket does kinda suck here, you gotta always be on the lookout for deals.

I am, pretty much gave up on getting a regular fun car, I was looking at a built sleeper civic well within my price range, but I need to get a DD, and it was just too low for winter. It also required premium, and I ain't makin' that commitment yet. Might just pick up a last-gen Tercel, they're tiny, which I like, and parts are everywhere.

Rsx

Yeah, you know what you're right. I really wanted to get something cool and sporty but you know I'm growing up now and really need a reliable DD. I have a job and I'm not an immature punk, plus you know about them bills am I right fellas? Anyhoo I'm thinking about a nice Camry, they're not flashy or sporty, but they're reliable and well-recognized. Okay well, thanks everyone looks like Toyota is the brand for me.

Do you live in the GTA? There's a 1990 E30 with 120k km, seems to be mint for 7k. I haven't pounced because I don't want to deal with inevitable deutsche electrical gremlins.. Want the link?

>Might just pick up a last-gen Tercel, they're tiny, which I like, and parts are everywhere.
I haven't seen a Tercel on the road in Canada for 15 years so I know this is bait

Bump.. Any more suggestions

Acura EL
Pontiac Wave
Pontiac Pursuit
Pontiac Sunfire

VeeAte fox mustang or sn95 mustang
I know the handling is a meme but honestly its amazing to hit a straightaway and just downshift and stomp the gas and take off like a rocket.

>just downshift and stomp the gas and take off like a rocket.
wrong car for that famalam

Damn I had no idea these were that fast.

The F-body twins were always faster than the Mustang from 1993-on. And they have ALWAYS outhandled the Mustangs when it came to corners.

I'm thinking about getting a Cobalt SS. They're still around 5k in my area. Just gotta find a picture with a nice looking house in the background. No bixnood cars.

Just because you wanna go sensible doesn't mean you have to give up a fun or quick ride. If you're looking at Camry's, can I interest you in a couple factory sleepers?

where can I meet up with fellow Brobalt drivers

cobaltss.net
they plan meetups from time to time.

get the cobalt ss / ion redline. Then you don't have to tell people you drive a civic and you'll go faster

related.

>GTA
Whoooah, no. I'm not that lucky. Try this:
>Nova Scotia
>Cape Breton
Not on Kijiji, but I have found one already.

>crappy american cars

yuck. I bet any used version of any of the listed specimens would come with a full ash tray and seats stained with butt sweat. No thanks.

yeah, but then you would have to tell people you drive a chebby cobalt, or worse...a saturn

>sticky reccos Saturn ion
>everywhere else on the internet says the car was pure aids

Explain

2003-2004 coupe models came with either an extremely unreliable CVT automatic transmission, or a bulletproof Getrag 5 speed manual. 2003-2004 sedan models came with either an unreliable 5 speed Aisin automatic or the bulletproof Getrag 5 speed manual
Guess which ones sold better.

2005 they dropped the CVT and the 5 speed auto due to all the problems and replaced it with a 4 speed GM automatic on both coupe and sedan.

The reputation wasn't helped with the GM ignition switch recall which affected them.

They're great cars with a shit reputation. Avoid early automatics and they're bulletproof reliable. The chassis responds well to modifications. The engines love boost and are either cheap to boost or came boosted (like the Redline model)

...

Supercharged balt is a piece of shit, it wasnt tuned on the ring, turbo was.

All the boosted Delta chassis performance cars were Nurburgring tuned. The Saturn Ion Redline, Cobalt SS Supercharged, Astra OPC, and the Cobalt SS Turbo.
That said they were each tuned differently, but all were nurburgring-tuned. The one with the softest suspension is the Saturn, followed by the supercharged SS, then the OPC, then the SS Turbo.

>Slowbalt
>even if it's faster
You don't think, do you

How good of a car is the Saturn Astra XR?

Foxy Stangs are nowhere near as cheap as the sticky suggests

>8k CAD

Pick up a prelude SH, drop the remaining 2k on a turbo kit

well it's a Saturn, so kinda shitty

well the build quality is incredibly cheap, so there's that

its a rebadged opel GM car
and its a
>saturn

their logo was nice, though
