Broken headlights piss me off the most, if you're driving on the highway with a car with a broken headlight behind you and check the rear view mirror for a quarter of a second it seems like he's indicating to overtake you.

Trucks with retrofitted light bars/HIDs are the worst because usually they're way too bright and they're not aimed correctly.

This may be a local thing (Los Angeles, everyone is an asshole), but I feel like drivers are conditioned to not signal lane changes, especially on the freeway. When people do signal, the next car back in the destination lane will put the pedal down to close the gap and block them.

Rooftop light bars are extremely dangerous in a head on collision.

They will break out of there bolted down mounts, but the electrical cable won't break, so instead the light bar swings into your windshield.

I never use turn signals when changing lanes or merging, only when turning. It gives people an opportunity to speed up otherwise.

I let up on the gas to allow a bigger gap so they can get in. Not everyone tries to be an asshole. A lot of times, people drive on the right but then need to get to the left side because on metro area freeways, some off ramp exits are on the left.

There's just too many people out there that enjoy seeing someone denied something and going LOL I hope you miss the off ramp. Those people reveal their true natures when there is no chance of penalty when trying to create more schadenfreude.

Signalling to change lanes isn't that big of a deal to me. It's when people come to a near stop in the middle of a single lane rural highway with no signal that bothers me.

I let people get in front of me when they use their signals. Otherwise if I noticed they are trying to change lanes without signals then I speed up just enough to deny them that.

Actually, a good portion of people will use their blinkers (at least where I am at, I don't know about you) then there are those who don't use their blinkers and just scare the shit out of me sometimes.

Because, when you have a set of competent drivers and a low speed limit you don't even need them on the highway. For example, I just went to Italy. 110kph speed limit, two lanes everywhere, and nobody even used their indicators. Nobody. It just flowed correctly, everybody looking twice before they changed lanes, and everybody had situational awareness.

Ramp the speed up, like in Germany, and yes, you'll need indicators. But a well educated set of drivers doesn't need them. You can easily guesstimate speed of traffic that's coming up on your rear - unless there is a 100+KPH difference like on the Autobahn.

The problem is that trucks have gotten so fuckhueg (and my car is low enough even at stock height) that the trucks lights shine right into all the mirrors at a stop light.

Rear lights shall ALWAYS be visible as long as the car is on.

Automated Headlights have the same flaw, they only register darkness but fail to activate (so the tail lights switch on as well) for important situations like a low standing sun causing glares/ occasionally blinding, gloomy weather or heavy rain.

It's usually daddies first company car style of cars that have the worst drivers regarding situational awareness and automated bullshit. It's fascinating to watch white, silver or black cars drive without any light during heavy rain. They completely vanish on wet roads covered in mist caused by other cars.

My automated headlights turn on when the automated wipers turn on. Also when it's very cloudy and long before it gets actually dark. It's just a matter of how they're set up. I'd probably just hardwire them to the ignition, there's no reason to drive with the lights off.

I do use my signals, I just avoid this situation by getting over 2 miles before a left exit and driving my usual slow (speed limit) speed for those 2 minutes. People get super pissed at me for driving slow in the fast lane but it's the general public's fault for instilling me with the idea that no one's going to let me in when I really do need to get over.

This happens at least once a week on my daily commute. If they signalled and I saw that there was traffic ahead I'd slow down before they got over so there was less of a need to brake hard.

Getting over without signalling is not preferable, but it's okay when traffic is fast. It's stupid and dangerous when traffic is slow.

I only signal when I feel you need to be aware of my lane change. Like if I'm merging onto or from a frontage road or parking lot, turning at an intersection, things like that. If you're in the right lane going 55 and I'm coming up behind you at 70, then yeah, I'm gonna just dip into the left lane for a second and then get back in front of you. Not signaling won't affect you so why bother

Accidents happen whether blinkers are used or not. I could signal and him not notice, and he could change his lane while I'm passing him. Now, because I was bothering to signal, there's a gap in my concentration where I'm not as focused on the road as I could be, because I had to signal. Signaling will also subconsciously put me into a false sense of security. I'll think, because I signaled, he knows I'm passing him, therefore, I'm safe to pass. If I don't signal, part of me now has to pay more attention to him while I'm passing, in which case I'll notice his erratic lane change, and I can dodge it. In this scenario, both of our lives are saved because I didn't use my signal. A lot of other people share the mentality that signaling actually creates aggressive drivers, thereby endangering everyone on the road far more so than one guy who didn't signal. Maybe you've never driven in a big city before, in which case your opinion on the topic of safe highway driving is less valid than that of those of us who have been driving in 5pm city driving for as long as you've been alive.

Why can't regular people push laws to be active in less than 5 minutes...

My law would be:
dim lights use limited to snow/fog/rainy weather and automatically enabled when high beams are enabled.
Rear lights ALWAYS on, and enforced use of rear dim lights during foggy weather. Failing to use will give a warning and further miss-use will become a ticket.
Turning lights MUST be orange and not allowed to be in the same hub as rear/break lights.
