because it's vagina pussy

because it's a pleb tier company

FWD is more economical. More room for the passengers and less expensive cars. They just aren't aiming for perfection like BMW and Mercedes are.

All just pre-established marques that VAG purchased.

With post-VAG RWD models

This is what I was getting at. Why isn't the Golf just an RR model like the Beetle was, Indians did cheap RR hatches with the Nano and the French did it with the Twingo.

Because FWD is better than RWD

VW is pleb-tier Euro. Audi sells based off "luxury" reputation. Little mention to its motorsport history since Group B was decades ago. As for now they have no RWD platforms and couldn't justify the costs of designing one.

If BMW and Mercedes wanted to, they could pump out FWD models in automatic only and the average buyer would be none the wiser. They won't, but it wouldn't make a difference to that knob who refers to his leased 3 Series as "the Beemer".

Normies don't know what an R8 is or what S and RS models are. A3, RS6, it's just "an Audi" to them.

Literally so was Audi???

BMW did actually try to make the next generation 2 series FWD and there was such a backlash voiced by their buyer base that they scrapped the plan and the 2 is remaining RWD.

y-you would have a sause for that?

Ultimate meme machine

>Tuned Beetles
>Not VAG

i dunno, that's a 2 year old article, and so far we only have the 2AT and the X1

Except no, the 2 series active tourer is still FWD and will most likely stay FWD.
Future BMW models will also have FWD as an option if they go through with their modular chassis bullshit.

>Why doesn't VAG do rear wheel drive?

Because not everyone is suicidal

it was only postponed. The 2nd gen 1series was originally supposed to be fwd in 2014, but they kept it around for a little longer. But the switch is coming.

auto.de/magazin/verrueckt-80-prozent-der-1er-bmw-fahrer-denken-ihr-auto-habe-frontantrieb/
(in german unfortunately)

according to then(still?) BMW chairman, BMW conducted a study amongst 1series owners in 2010.
80% thought their car was fwd.

>Why doesn't VAG do rear wheel drive?

They did.

Do you pay for your internet by the pixel?

forgot pic

The 2 series sedan was originally to be a FWD vehicle based on the Mini UKL platform. There was backlash from BMW purists over this so now the next generation 2 series four door will be built on a smaller version of the architecture that will be used on the next generation 3 series.

The FWD model was renamed the 1 series sedan and will only be sold in China, where people don't give half a shit. The rest of the world will get the new RWD 2 series which will be called the 2 series Gran Coupe. The 3 series is getting a little bit longer the next generation so the new 2 Gran Coupe will slot under it and be simpler. Basically think of it as a modern take on what made the old E36 great. This vehicle is expected to be priced a bit under $30k.

The four door 2 series will likely start in the high $30s range, likely around the $38k mark that the Mercedes C-Class does as it's expected to grow into a proper luxury sedan to compete directly with the C-Class for it's next generation. The sub $30k 2 series Gran Coupe is expected to be built in Mexico to keep costs low. This makes a lot of sense because BMW is already building a factory for their new 3 series there which shares it's architecture. BMW has already stated the plant in Mexico was designed specifically to build vehicles on it's new CLAR RWD architecture, the cheap crossovers have already gone FWD and they've said another vehicle besides the 3 series will be built there.

What site is this ?

benchracers.shit

maybe the owner is a pro drifter and wanted extra traction for the front wheels

>i4 golf is faster than a 6 cyl twin turbo m4

It's a mean little Golf, user.

They took it, took out the back seats for "weight reduction, bro" and juiced it up just to claim the title of fastest FF around Burgerring. Sold the stripped-down Golf as a special edition.

Since the krauts were the ones responsible it's likely they also waxed the driver to remove excess weight from hair and had him on a liquid diet for a month prior. They don't believe in half-measures and don't fuck about when it comes to getting things done. When they finally get sick of Merkel's multikulti we'll be seeing efficient kebab removal that would make a Serb weep.

>Why doesn't VAG do rear wheel drive?
Because they do Quattro and 4Motion. Hatchbacks with Haldex, sedans and wagons with TorSen. With those, why would you want RWD?

Gonna get me a Quattro after this.

Is this car front-engined or mid-engined?

Front, longitudinally mounted 5-pot turbo. This is the beast responsible for starting the AWD turbo trend.

The quattro 4WD system and quattro GmbH performance division were both named after the Group B legend.

The mid-engine AWD monstrosity you're thinking of is the Ford RS200.

How is that relevant? They wanted to expand into different segments and had the financial muscle to do whatever. Instead of buying the engineers and draining other manufacturers brains to make their own RWD, sports and luxury cars, they bought the whole company, gave them access to VAG technology, engines and resources and had them keep doing what they do best. Where was Bugatti at before VW gave them the double W8 engine? Imagine Ford or some Indians bought Bentley instead. Also, Porsche can only keep shitting out nothing but sports cars because they meet the government's efficiency quota via Golfs, Polos, Seats and Skodas, BMW is making 3 cylinders instead.

Not so fast, killer

Where was Bugatti at before VW gave them the double W8 engine?

Making the greatest cars that nobody knew even existed

Pussy-fags...

Great maybe, but nowhere near doing the heritage justice. You don't need to like the Veyron to agree that it became a legend before even hitting the road for the first time, truly earning the Bugatti badge.

>Olio vs Fiat

So that was the problem

EB110=PASSION
Veyron=old german cunt waving his dick

Serious answer: Audi's longitudinal-engine Quatto system puts the engine's weight entirely in front of the front axle, giving their cars FWD-like weight distribution. It's okay for AWD (though the A4/A5's fundamental handling characteristics are more like FWD than RWD), but the weight distribution would be poor for RWD. In order to fix the weight distribution for a RWD variant of the A4, Audi would have to change the chassis and fenders to move the front axle forward. Therefore, Audi just makes FWD and AWD variants.

No. Just didn't see the point of posting a bigger picture when you can still make out what car it is and the fact that Veeky Forums has a built-in image search feature if you really wanted to look for a bigger picture.

No

...

Yeah a toyota doesnt need to make a supra because of the lexus F marque

That's what a porsche is

>getting paid to ride in a group B rally car and read off a paper

dude I'd be happy too

MAN
VW
Ducati
Scania
are the other VAG brands that make RWD vehicles.

OP doesn't know how to order VWs 2L turbocharged 6 speed manual RWD, are you clinically retarded?

>vag fanboy
>suomi perkele

nothing new to see here

They're cheap and easy to maintain and they have made plenty of amazing cars, what's not to like?

somebody bought into the miata meme

I was just about to bring up the whole transaxle issue. Thanks for elaborating on it.

It's actually the same layout as a modern Subaru. Subaru licensed Audi's AWD technology.

because bmw and mercedes already do, and why try to enter an already saturated market when they have a steady market for their economy cars

because they can barely make a front wheel drive car that won't go up in an electrical fire

Maybe it's just me, but I always think the Veyron looks like a 250 MPH beetle. So boring to look at.
