I like how Renault handled it much better. Instead of pretending it was real sound like BMW and Ford, Renault was totally up-front about the fake sounds, and even let you choose from a library of different engine notes, so your Megane or whatever can sound like an F1 car or a GT-R or a bunch of other stuff.
