(E36) Motor change

How expensive is it to change an engine?
Has anyone tried it?
Would you recommend it?

Also:
What are the best BMW engines that fit an E36? Especially concerning fuel efficiency.

ls swap $500 and an afternoon

>has anyone tried it?
Probably like 60% of 6 cyl E36s are swapped 316s and 318s. No experience but I guess M52 engines are the best to swap in an E36, since they were mounted there from the factory and they feature VANOS with improves low RPM torks compared to M50. How expensive it is probably depends on where you live and whether you do it yourself or get someone to do it. Remember that apart from the engine you have to swap the exhaust, brakes, transmission, electronics and other shit that I've just looked up on a BMW related forum.

>60%
You just pulled that out if your ass and it's fucking wrong.

the 2.8 goes pretty well in the e36 compact. 150+mph hatchback with fuck tonnes of torque

You can't afford it.

What about the E46 or even later motors of other BMWs?
Do they fit?

literally anything will fit. a 3 liter cummins will fit.
you could fit a straigtht 8 if you cut into the firewall or radiator support.

the issue isnt what will fit, the issue is that you have no idea what youre doing

I can surely pay someone whk knows what they're doing, and obviously anything does fit, Im just curious what fits with a small amount of work similar to using another E36 motor.

Then there's nothing because it won't hook up to the gearbox.

Rip.
The E36 engines are just too hungry for that little power

V8 from the E34 if you have hairy balls

What about the S65 V8 engine?
Can you put that in a E36

Go S85 or go home.

If you have to ask that on Veeky Forums, I would not recommend it.

Why a V10

General rule of thumb with motor swaps. If you don't have these three things, don't bother:
>knowledgeable friend
>money
>time

318's got a compressor kit for the 4cyl if that's an option

M50B25
M52B28
M54B30 (probably requires alot of work but still)
S50B32

Wish i could do a swap in my Ti, but
>space
>time
>money

Not trying to pay some shop 10k for a 20 year old car.

i believe there's documentation for m44 -> s50 or s52 swaps out there
they aren't cheap though, budget 5 grand or more in parts, probably closer to 8

>an afternoon
Bullshit
