How fast does a Tesla have to go before you realize you got cucked by Elon Musk?

ICE fanboys are like console fanboys

You are now imagining this chassis with a carbon fibre coupe body.

Would probably run 9's with a lighter body and drive train. But when the batteries are running at such a high duty cycle; is it able to stage, burnout, run the pass and drive back multiple times? I simply doubt the capacity of modern batteries, not the efficiency of electric motors.

>10 minutes arounf the ring
Why is this ever relevant to a non-sporting road car?

>2015 Tesla Model S P90D
>Curb weight: 4842 lb
>2016 Tesla Model S P100D
>5000+ lbs

Let me know when the Roadster comes back, because that pigfat is fucking disgusting

>non-sporting car
>advertises performance stats

Pick one.

>10 minutes arounf the ring

Got a source for that? because motor trend tried running it around laguna seca and the battery overheated within a much much shorter lap.

Tesla model S runs into truck
Truck is totaled, tesla is fine.

>Quotes 0-60s and 1/4 mile time
>"Ring time is irrelevant bro"

what the fuck is the point of this thread then

99.9% of supercar owner will never touch a track in their life.
Since when is track time relevant ?

Ring time is not good, but not 10 minutes bad. And I don't think anyone's ever taken one since the 85.
It didn't literally lose 3% charge, it rebalanced expected range.
Single gear and weight are unfortunate though.

It shows the true performance of the vehicle

Which for a 5000 pound electric paperweight is garbage

>10 minutes arounf the ring
Or 8:50 (prob 35-40 for this), making a full size luxury sedan match hot hatches around a track.
>9.7:1 (!) gear ratio (utter shit)
18,000rpm, retard.
>5000lbs
Welcome to 2016, where the sub-compacts weigh as much as medium sedans of the 90s.
>loses around 3% of charge during one pull even with ERS
And my soarer probably drinks 3% of its 80L tank during one long pull
>shit interior

>literally designed with textbook
Just like your brain was literally modeled on a small pile of dog shit.

Oh, and it isn't 5k+/heavier than the P90D. They weigh it in the very video that OP comes from.

Because supercars are sold as being fast cars, they are bought because the owner wants a car that can lap the nurburgring in under seven minutes. Do you go to /k/ and ask why they need an AR15 when they're not going to go to Baghdad any time soon?

wow Tesla Model S is a supercar now? last time I checked it was a 4 door 5000 lb hatchback with seating for 7.

>Or 8:50 (prob 35-40 for this), making a full size luxury sedan match hot hatches around a track.
Hot hatches are doing sub 8 minute laps now.

In ideal conditions on essentially semi-slicks, IIRC the 8:50 was an 85D on normal shit tyres in normal traffic.

If they can sort the battery temp issues out and give it sticky tyres it'd be down closer to 7s

If it's got so much torks why does it run such a short final drive ratio?
Wouldn't it be better for efficiency to gear it longer or are headline grabbing gimmicks more important?

It is a benchmark for the performance of the car

it already produces more torque than the tire traction can handle up to about 40mph

ideally it would be geared to be most efficient at the most common speed

with the track performance of an 80s hot hatch

>getting triggered by the word supercar

I have a feeling people who are dropping over $100k on a Tesla are not going to have a huge problem with buying a second car if they are interested in track driving.

Was flame and damage control mode added in v8.0 update

>18,000rpm, retard.
doesn't matter single-speeds are inefficient as fuck

>Just like your brain was literally modeled on a small pile of dog shit.
i'm really surprised that weren't caught by parental control

I would say Tesla underestimates the attractiveness of performance beyond the quarter with the lack of urgency on cooling and the single gear. That said, every performance edition has increased post-60 performance more than 0-60, the 0-60 just looks better on video.

So they're not buying Teslas for performance? Who would've thunk it.
Someone should tell OP.

>0-60 and 1/4 mile is not considered performance

wew lad someone get the memo out to Motor Trend

If the cars were not being bought for performance they could extend the range by a significant amount.

>track times aren't considered performance
checkmate muskcucks

pro-tip: the vast majority of people who don't have Veeky Forumstism don't drive their "performance" cars on tracks ever. but they still accelerate from 0-60 and drive over 1/4 mile every day.

I want to strip out a Tesla, put racing seats in it, a bunch of cooling mods, some ridiculous aero, and straight cut gears.

My dream right here.
So much untapped potential.

>I drive at 70mph so I need to do 0-60 in 2.5s
muskcuck logic, everyone

>disregarding the entire muscle car genre whose entire existence revolved around stoplight acceleration and 1/4 mile times

what are you some kind of yurofag?

The sad thing to me as a fan, it could easily be regarded as more than an electric muscle car. Turning performance isn't bad despite the weight. Just a performance cooling package would be huge.

gm, ford, dodge are probably thinking doing an electric muscle car since just like muscle car electric got a lot of low end torque. On top of that it will handle shit just like older muscle cars.

I have no desire to drive one on a track. The gradual torque dropoff at higher revs would be a boner kill and using a manual transmission is half the fun.

>tfw no 2 speed manual
This is the one thing from Formula E I want to see in a road EV.
You'd actually have to try to make it handle like shit with the natural placement of the batteries and motors being being low and center.

>constantly changing argument
Just face facts the """"performance""""" aspect of a tesla is a gimmick.
No one says "I really like muscle cars I'll get a Tesla". This has never happened.

They are already made with straight cut gears apparently

No one says "I really like circuit driving so I'll buy a hellcat". The Tesla is now indisputably faster than every ICE muscle car ever made. Elon Musk single handedly turned the actual muscle car industry into a complete joke.

Helical.
If they had straight cut gears, you'd hear it.

Put more in the roof and use swing bar suspension.

Exactly, they think "I want something that does zero harm to the environment and still outperforms damn near eveything on the road so I'll buy a Tesla" or "I want that massive tax discount so I'll buy a Tesla".

I was told by someone who toured their factory that they were using straight cut gears in something at least. I'm not sure where though.

IDK, but the only gears in the car are in the diff(s), all helical.

a substantial number are delusional musk disciples who'd probably eat a tesla badged shit if lord elon asked them to, just to seem progressive.
most people are reasonably rational and in it for the financial benefits.

Then the "muscle car industry" has been a "joke" for a long time, as they've not been the fastest thing on the streets since about 1980.
Truth is being the fastest doesn't matter to most grown ups who are into cars.
Tesla will punch itself out.

How many car of the year lists has the Model S topped? Calling it "eating a shit because lord elon asked you to" is actual retardation.

Now, buying a Bolt when GM straight up tells you they don't want to invest in charging infrastructure for it is eating shit just to be progressive, it seems to me.

it's a classic moving the goal posts thing around here

"i wont buy an electric car until it goes 500 miles on a charge and costs 30 grand"
>ten years from now, when that's a thing
"i wont buy an electric car until it goes 1000 miles on a charge for 20 grand"
>ten years later, when that's a thing

>Truth is being the fastest doesn't matter to most grown ups who are into cars.

no the truth is 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are more important than lap times to most grown ups who are into "performance" cars. when a silent 4 door pigfat sedan can embarrass your brand new Ferrari or Porsche at any stoplight they suddenly don't seem as cool.

t. 16 year old who thinks that people respect his 20 year old shitbox civic
As much as I hate Tesla you're just rationalizing your own piece of shit car

Thats even better because muscles(pony) cars got good handling now.

huh? you got the wrong end of it, i love muscle cars.
i don't mind electric cars either, it's just a shame that the majority of of people who they are attract are people who hate cars.

car of the year lists? next you'll tell me wards top ten engines means something too.

You type like you've been into cars for a year. They're not your games consoles.
No one would think any less of an Enzo or F1 if you parked a P90 next to them and told them it was faster.

>No one would think any less of an Enzo or F1 if you parked a P90 next to them and told them it was faster.

uhh... yes. yes they would. rather they would be even more amazed by the Tesla. if you need any evidence of this see all the hype surrounding the Tesla 0-60 times that has Veeky Forums triggered so hard every time they see it.

>i don't mind electric cars either, it's just a shame that the majority of of people who they are attract are people who hate cars.

youtube.com/watch?v=ZAwIsKC7ROQ

i have your alternative

driving in a straight line is not a sport

It was the Saleens, and not all the Saleens have the straight cut gears

>car of the year lists? next you'll tell me wards top ten engines means something too.
Point is, independent reviewers acknowledge how good it is. "E-elon told you to" doesn't make sense. To put it another way, consumer reports had to change their system to avoid giving it better than a perfect score.

next you'll tell me shooting people and getting niggers to fuck your wife for you isn't a sport

DC power is hilarious. Comparatively inefficient, dirty, uses huge fuckoff blowers (I saw one with a supercharger converted to a blower to make up for shit airflow), low RPM and shittons of torque. I think people around here would love it if they paid attention.

The 222 used like 7 overdrives when it went for the mile record.

yup. it's all low range and no top end, just a big fucking hammer

I desperately want to add a rear electric motor to my prelude now.

LMAO

how will Tesla ever recover

I believe kek magic is trying to tell us something...

WOAH THERE CHECK THOSE

...

i don't want to drive an external combustion car

KEK MAGIC IS FUCKING REAL

Complaining about EV fires from an ICE perspective is like a nigger worrying about getting shot by white people. The only reason it even gets in the news is because it happens rarely, if every ICE fire was news there literally wouldn't be other news.

EV fanboys are literally console fanboys
of course they don't understand what cars are actually about

My 20k evo has a higher top speed

where's my "ferarris on fire" folder when i need to dump it

if gasoline powered cars had the same frequency of spontaneous fires as Teslas, the developed world would be blanketed in fire.

>same frequency of spontaneous fires
... So 1 ever?

If I could afford one I'd buy one, but I'm still happy with my fossil car.

Gas cars are about 11x as likely to experience a car fire as EVs
insideevs.com/number-of-fire-related-deaths-per-year-caused-by-evs/

>want to make an EV conversion
>no 80s Kei cars near me
>Options of making a battery is either make a pack out of used 18650 which also doubles as a firestarter, cross state lines and pay 2000$ for one from a wrecked Leaf or buy new for 8000$

Finding a motor is easy, you have lots of options with controllers but god damn Lithium Ion is a bitch

Because there are millions more of them on the road.
>what is probability

Are you retarded? More likely = it happens at a greater rate period. Take the same statistically significant sample size of ICE and EV, the ICE will catch fire ~11x more.

you are dumb and should feel bad for this post

>90 vehicle fires per billion miles caused in ICEs
>11 vehicle fires per billion miles caused in EVs

You still BTFO

If you're gonna shell out for an already prepared pack, Leaf strikes me as a bad choice. They go to shit quick because Nissan thought temp control was too good for the masses. Volt packs are pretty great.

oh damn, not that guy but it didn't know that about leaf packs
i figured volt packs would be great but the downside is they come in rather large cells which makes them awkward to place around the car

Drive one. You will change your mind very quickly. Even the lowest model S, say a 60 2wd model) does an effortless 0-60 in 5 sec. No drama-- it just does it every time. The car hooks up and goes. The suspension on the S is really very good.

>Tesla Crash *****
