Sceleria is the remnants of Western Roman Empire with its old capital (Rome/Eldergate) having suffered an undead apocalypse and conquered territories like Gaul+Iberia (Marignon) and Germania (Ulm) having broken free. You could think of the real-world equivalent as Northern Italy with its capital in Mediolanum, Ravenna or something.

Similar to how you can resummon a transformed unique demon lord, I'm pretty sure that it's a Hunter of Heroes that gets called to attack and if there's none then it'll create one. That said, if it's by that unique unit rather than monster ID, it would be awesome.

Now that I think about it, there really isn't any reason why Sceleria would have to be Dominions world equivalent of Northern Italy. Who knows, perhaps Sceleria is Italian peninsula South of Rome (Eldergate), maybe throw Sicily, Sardinia and Corsica there for good measure and make not-Syracuse the capital of Sceleria.

It's not like the devs came up with all the shit themselves, they just neatly collected lots of mythology from all sort of different cultures and tried to weave them together leading to a pretty interesting result.

Not a lot of settings have several different hells and heavens co-existing. You get angels fighting onis surrounded by nordic giants drenched in the water of Styx.

Assuming that this is for the War in Hell mod, you could consider making each 'nation' just one of the Demon Lords with only that Demon Lord available as a pretender chassis. Then you can fill their national rosters with stuff that makes sense with said demon lord's paths and lore.

I rather think they DO think about that kind of stuff. Be it juxtapositions of history historical events (like not Alexander the Great clearly reaching not India as demonstrated by Arco having monkey units or backstory of Vanarus referring to Norsemen/Varangians->Vanheim founding Kievan Rus as well as Ulmish->Teutonic Knight attacking Novgorod) or general consistency and attention to detail (like Heart Companions, inspired by Sacred Band of Thebes, being gay), a very great deal of thought clearly has gone into Dominions worldbuilding.

Well, there's no canonical map of the world of Dominions but numerous interactions between the factions inferred from fluff are very much consistent with the real-world geography of the places of origin for mythology and history the factions are based on. You can't say if there's not Arabian peninsula or not Himalayas, but we know Ragha was somewhere in between not Greece and not India because it was cut off by not Alexander's conquests, and unsurprisingly, looking at real world map, that's where we find Zoroastrianism Ragha is inspired by.

You have full battlefield access to FWESN through native communions. That's good buffing paths. Could be better if you had A, but still really good.
Mystic communions are also excellent at spamming battlemagic.
All you need to win off that is good stuff to buff. Alas, you're pretty shit at rituals aside from the S ones.

There's a lot of different stuff that's vastly stronger than vanilla, honestly, which makes it hard to pick out a single 'best.'

For instance, C'tis has these ridiculously OP sacred summons, but it's hard to say if that makes the nation OP given that the best way to leverage them is with a big bless that c'tis doesn't typically use. Reach through Dimensions also brings stupidly strong summons, but it's big N big S, so it's awkward for most nations to cast it without a pretender and doesn't come up until Conj 9.

I'm trying out a strat using the idols of sorcery in a ME game now, but I haven't found anything worth dropping 170 gems of killing on.

Arcoscephale, Marignon, Mictlan, Ashdod and Atlantis, because they have a version in each age. That means that there's less work that needs to be done making them distinct from other nations in each age. That means Shillwinter is more likely to choose my suggestion.
