What's the point of V8s if a V6 delivers the same performance with less weight?
What's the point of V8s if a V6 delivers the same performance with less weight?
torque.
The Ford F150 has class leading torque. That's not an argument anymore
>V6 delivers the same performance with less weight?
"with a turbo"
Turbocharge the V8 and it'll be ahead of the turbocharged V6 every time
this
and sound.. and no lag
Noise value.
Had some redneck buddies who I've always gone to F1 races with, over the past few years they've become less and less interested in the "vacuum cleaner races" and more into rally.
I don't have the heart to tell them about how half the engines are 4 bangers
Why don't the fastest accelerating cars on the planet use V6's?
It actually won't. V6s are superior for track performance.
function > form
V6s are superior
Drag racing goes on
I'm not disagreeing with you Alphonse, I'm answering your fucking question.
Ok pal
I'm not alphonse and V6s are literally superior in every way for track times.
I6 > V6 tho
Nope inline engines are garbage
>superior
V6 is garbage until you give it forced induction.
Not every track series has the same engine rules.
Fuck off alphonsr
>implying
i mean no? they're the best engines. actually
What's the point of ICEs when electric motors exist?
Stay stupid. See if I care. V6s are better. Deal with it.
Objectively wrong
Nope.
V6>Flat 6>I6
Kys, retards
The GT500 made 650ftlbs. The F150 makes 420. Booster V8 torque > boosted V6 torque.
>V6s are literally a cost cutting measure
The rxc would be faster faster with an LS9 or BMW S63 or something
>no argument
V6 confirmed for shit N/A
And the GT500 is slower than an rxc turbo around a track.
Stay retarded
[citation needed]
Bad opinion
That's a nice A to B comparison you've got there. Now put a boosted V8 in there.
>[citation needed]
You're asking me if a more powerful engine would make a car quicker?
only one who stayed retarded around here is you.
Stay triggered, cuck. I6 a shit
It wouldn't be faster though. It would just slow it down because of extra weight.
>Not appreciating nitromethane huffing, 60PSI blown local earthquake machines that outaccelerate the space shuttle
It's like you don't even appreciate cars.
The RXC is literally a go-kart lighter than the average American of course it beats normal production cars you hack
The only triggered one here is you. Stay mad jelly of my dubs.
>horsepower is the only thing that makes a car fast around a track
There's other factors like weight, dumbfuck.
>tesla has never won Le Mans
Btfo
V8s a shit. Stay BTFO
I never mentioned tesla. Did you just come in from stupid town?
Oh for fuck sake
you're a shitty troll desu alphonse, you do this everytime, people address every half arsed argument you make then your tism flares up and you end up repeating your shitty catchphrases over and over.
it's embarrassing, please stop
top kek
>damage control
Literally cannot compete
Hey guys so I was wondering. If there were no restrictions in formula 1. What engine config would they go for?
The pic is the Red Bull X2014 Fan car which is suppose to be an idea of what a no regulations formula 1 car would look like and for this vehicle they have it a twin tubro V6 making 1400 or so hp.
So does this mean a twin turbo v6 is the answer for the best power/weight? This personally triggers me because I hate the sound of a V6. Why not slap a twin turbo V8? Or maybe even v10? I think v12 would be much too heavy but a v8 or v10 would yield more power and sound much nicer without adding all that much weight, r-right?
Tldr; the car in pic is what F1 would look like without restrictions, theoretically. It has a twin turbo v6. Is this really the best layout or was the designer of the Red Bull x2014 fan car just a cuck?
Weight is insignificantly changed using a slightly bigger engine - however, power is increased, which means you can use a more downforce without slowing down as much on the straights. Modern automotive performance is moving more and more away from the Chapmanesque "lighter is better", towards "downforce and power are better".
>has no argument
>just ad hominems
Stay BTFO
>gm can't compete
As expected
Is that why lmp1 cars use V6s? V8s a shit
the sound and wanton wastefulness
also more power potential
this is correct
Stay BTFO
V6s are better
Dumbass
>GM can't compete
>tesla literally cannot compete with GM
can't even make this shit up.
>loses power after seven minutes of "spirited driving"
>V6
>gm is shit
Glad we're on the same page.
6 cylinder master race
Well obviously I have no intention of getting involved in this childish argument about engine formations as it's pretty boring.
And that was not an ad hominem, it was just an observation, stop being so sensitive.
>deflecting
Btfo
Kill yourself, V8 cuck
>projecting
Stay triggered
You are beyond retarded. Learn the definition of words before you talk.
Can we all agree that rotary is the best?
>Is that why lmp1 cars use V6s?
No, that's because Le Mans is an endurance race, where endurance and range matter more than outright lap speed. Saving fuel is a major concern, which is why a 2.0 litre turbo hybrid won.
Also, Le Mans is rules lawyering at it's finest, basically creating an optimal environment for only one engine type (just like F1).
>he thinks I need to project
Top kek you already admitted tesla couldn't compete, and N/A V6's were inferior.
They chose V6s because they get the same performance as a V8 with the fuel efficiency of a V6. There are no disadvantages.
>literally admitting V6s are superior to V8s
Glad we're on the same page
...
>thinking that turbo V6 is the same as a naturally aspirated one
Mustang owners.
>illiteracy
The post
Tbh ur a grade A cuck if you need not only one but TWO turbos to get power out of an engine.
Literally the only reason for turbos is emissions.
Nice projection, faggot
>unironically getting cucked by air
Stay stupid
>illiteracy
Like you assuming any V6 is worth a damn because I implied turbo V6 is a respectable config?
>cucked by air
Ironically enough that's exactly why you have a turbo instead of actual power.
H6>VR6>I6>V6 faggots
>They chose V6
Funny, no V6 won this year.
>Same performance
Only using the hybrid system. A hybrid V8 would be even more powerful.
>V6 fuel efficiency
BSFC disagrees with you there. Air goes in, HP comes out - for any given amount of HP, a given amount of air needs to go in, mixed with enough fuel to not make it blow up. At full (and fully closed) throttle, a 500hp boosted V6 and 500hp n/a V8 both consume as much air and as much fuel. It's only at part throttle (which doesn't happen a lot in a race) where the V6 goes out of boost, that it breathes less air and thus consumes less fuel.
The common knowledge that boosted V6>V8 in terms of mpg is only true in consumer vehicles where the downsized engine isn't producing boost all the time: that's what gets you good MPG ratings. Step on it, though, and practical MPG goes down hard.
Top kek
rekt
>literally every V8 at lemans lost to a V6 toyota
Proof that they're superior
>a hybrid V8 would be more powerful
It would also be slower
Mpg is bullshit, it's only achieved by severely avoiding boost and driving like a grandma
Nope.
Haha autblog and irl drivers on forums confirms it
>focus st gets 15-20 when driven spirited
>cts v gets 9-12
>m4 gets 15
:)
I used to own a Focus ST225, the one with the Volvo engine.
No matter how hard I tried I couldn't get better than 20mpg (imp) in normal driving, hooning it would get me 8-12mpg.
Living in the UK that just wasn't feasible for me for too long. Sounded sexy as hell though.
I like V8's. That's all that matters. Also sound, and most V8's can handle more power than any other motor once you get into crazy power modding
>What is off road?
But F1 cars sound like shit. At least the rally cars have antilag.
>Starts a thread with a question
>Answers own fucking question
>Refuses to address every reasonable response
Stay ignant, m'friend.
Still inferior
>reasonable
For the heterosexual population
Sound
itt: faggots with 3800s imagine life if their engines weren't shit
There are people who have small dicks, so they compensate with
>V8
>lifted truck
>automatic BMW
as long as there are people with small dicks, American companies will keep making V8s
THEY DON'T
there jet engines
FAGGOT
top lel, enjoy your V6 shitty vibrations
I6 and V12 are objectively the best engines.
Front wheel drive case closed.
I6 a shit. Stay retarded
The V8 gets the job done. Little maintenance involved.
If you want a turbo V6 to live long you need to take care of it. More boost brings more power but this also cuts into its lifespan. Forced induction is a Faustian bargain.
Fuck off and take your pigfat harmonic balancers with you
:^)
lol
Enjoy being inferior
Ford Ecoboost
V6 3.5 Dry weight: 449 lbs
365hp/420lbft in F150
GM EcoTec3 6200
V8 6.2 Dry Weight 448lbs
420/460 in Silverado
>A perfectly balanced engine is shit
yeah okay
Literally everything on that list is false.
*they're
>in the f150
Yea, back in 2013. Fuck off.
You don't belong on Veeky Forums
>if a V6 delivers the same performance with less weight?
Except they dont
Stay ignorant
>Forced induction is a Faustian bargain.
Only when you build up a a previously N/A engine that doesn't have the proper internals to support forced induction. A well built turbo motor will last as long as a well built N/A motor.
I guess you've never seen goodwood. Most of the events are just rich banker pricks too scared to put their foot down. This is clearly ignorance or shitty bait.
