Because it accomplished its missions of grabbing Froggy, allowing Robotnik to help complete Chaos. Everything else Gamma did was ultimately irrelevant with regard to what Robotnik wanted. The other robots were obviously garbage and needed to be purged anyway since they were too stupid to find a single frog.

It'd be less tiring and played out if they were the Sonic equivalent of the Thunderbolts or better yet, Secret Six
at least Eggman cares for Metal Sonic in the comics
I can't picture the new character being a villan or a monster of the week, there doesn't seem to be much room for that going from the reveal trailer.
I think it'll most likely be a character that guides or helps the characters along the story, like Chip.

Doomsday Zone, since there have been imitators in at least a dozen other games.
Almost hope they use parts of the scrapped Proto Blaze design, that design looked neat.
