supports simply need to be rebalanced and given the option of transitioning into strong semicarries should the need arise -- the whole idea of a boots+branch support is outdated and deserves to be trashed... its BORING to play a role you KNOW will have next to 0 impact beyond 20mins into the game

much of the support role has also been 'outsourced' into so-called 'support items' which are basically highly cost-efficient items used to obfuscate enemy carries... overall this doesnt make for fun gameplay for ANYONE -- not for supports, not for carries

this 'outsourcing' also means practically any hero can play 'support' as long as they buy those items too... traditional supports have lost their niche - lots of carries these days have absurd amounts of early game presence and spell dmg/utility
