I just started playing legion and levelling an MM hunter and enjoying it so far.

The choice is between ret pally and fury warrior.

Both are considered bad for mythic because they are melee. Ret has higher damage on average, a shitload more utility, and isn't a 100% liability because of furys passive 30% extra damage taken. Ret also can cheese boss bullshit with bubble, has a strong self-shield and strong self-heals.

Ret is also a billion times better in PvP due to blessing of sanctuary and a fuckton of burst.

Ret is also better in raids due to holy damage bypassing armor of bosses and generally higher damage.

Fury does have more AOE, but only if Ret has not specced for AOE. Ret AOE requires greater judgment or zeal, and when specced for AOE, Ret surpasses Fury. Tomes of clear mind are your friend here.

Ret > Fury in all aspects.

But no one will invite either because they are melee. If you really want a no skill required hugbox free invite DPS class, just roll a fire mage and stack crit. Even if you are a humongous shitter and don't pass 200k DPS you'll still get invites solely because its ranged and no one wants to take a chance on melee.
