Sorry there hasn't been a /ddt/ thread for about a month, I've been slammed with school and work (I fucking quite my job, and then my father needs help with his; oh well, making money is good regardless). You guys can repost them as well, if you need one: it's not magic.
But on to /ddt/ things: the rear end of the 240 is almost completely shaved! I've got one more patch panel to weld in, and we'll be good to go. My parents are on vacation in Nevada, so they'll be grabbing some Naptha for the paint job.
Where can I go to find a 240/260/280 in the UK? They seem to be nonexistent.
Chase Flores
260z resto guy here...so I finally made a video of a track day and intro for my project. Never did anything like this before and I'm a super noober scoober at editing but figured I would share! Please enjoy.
They mostly are non-existent; they're very hard to find and very expensive.
Most guys in the U.K. that buy S30's I see are importing them from the east coast of the U.S.
Nolan Jackson
Nice edit btw man, high quality ish right there

.....only now do I realize how fucked I am when I will be driving the Z. Every freaking person on the road here is a mexican or a black in a big ass Escalade or F2150, I will get squished.
Owen Campbell
You get used to it
Kayden Williams
>You get used to almost dying
Lol I guess
Adrian Carter
It sounds like riding a motorcycle
Wyatt Jenkins
I drive 350+ miles a week in it, you just get really good at reading people. You guess what they're gonna do and be ready for max stupid at any given time
Wyatt Morris
at least you can jump off of a motorcycle; the S30 might as well be considered an all in one guillotine/coffin (thanks to that wonderful decapitating hood)
350 miles? Dang. Start every time for ya?
Jayden Richardson
Ez. It complained a bit this morning though, 45 degrees was a bit chilly for the tuning.
Charles Diaz
>jump off
Yeah I'm sure that would end well
Matthew Taylor
It's the better of two shitty options.
Do you want to be under a flaming mass of metal and fiberglass while sliding down the road at 70mph or do you want to just be tumbling down the road at 70mph?
Ryder Wright
>tumbling
Lol, no. More like skidding down the road having your skin and bones ground away by the pavement only to have your bike, car, truck, or other object abruptly end your slide and your life. Or if you're unlucky just paralyzed.
Christian Robinson
Rhis is now my wallpaper
Elijah Scott
>More like skidding down the road having your skin and bones ground away by the pavement and this kids is why we don't ride squid, and wear our fucking protective gear.
Helmet, jacket, spine protector, gloves, proper pants, and riding boots.

Don't mind if I crash the party.
William Wright
Nah man come on in, always room for some Z31's. They were the last Z with an inline six, so they definitely deserve a place.
Angel Rodriguez
Gear is a false sense of security, even the highest quality leathers will get ground away at high speed. Not to say I don't wear gear though..
Kevin Bell
How much should I expect to spend fixing up a cheap S30 to be able to take to the track?
Kevin Brown
Depends on what condition you get it in.
For instance, if you get a really nice, little to no rust cherry example, I'd just go through the fluids and breaks and head to the track.
If it's rusty and running crappy, then you need to repair the rust spots and overhaul the drivetrain, and the suspension (struts, springs, bushings), be plus the aforementioned fluids and brakes
James Clark
With everything I did, and what I still have to do, in total it will cost me anywhere from $4000-5000.
But basically what said.
Henry Wilson
Depends on what you're willing to spend, and the model. A rust free 240 will probably be around 7-11k, 260's and 280's are considerably less. If you get a mild to moderately rusted S30 expect so spend anywhere from 750-2k fixing the rust. Mine is HEAVILY rusted and I'm looking at about 5-6k.
Plus everything said.
Ethan Phillips
Depends on how patient you are. I paid 4500 and I've put probably 3k into it since then
Aaron Kelly
words cannot express how much I want this vehicle. If I only had $4,800
because why wouldn't you want a sick ass wagon to bum around in? With an L28ET swap, it would be a sweet ride for family road trips
Andrew Green
Would rather have a TE72 wagon desu senpai
Mason Johnson
Finally arrived

WHERE IS THIS SHIT DUDE
Asher Diaz
Are there any salvageable S30s? Where are you located? I want a running project.
Justin Taylor
I can help you with that if you're around kc
Adam Phillips
Why would you take the tow hook and the competition hood scoop off a track car?? Geeet ouuuuutaaaa heeereeeee....
Isaac Powell
Its the user with who worked on the burned out 240z
Its in dallas, Friendliest Salvage Yard 3610 Bedford St, Dallas, TX 75212
not sure havent been in a while
Nicholas Brooks
Fugg I live in SoCal. Moving tO San Diego soon for a new job and should have money for a Z finally.
Jaxson Jenkins
Not him but I'm in OK. What have you got?
Benjamin Martinez
1971 Series 1 with L24/E31 head. Was somebody's baby they were restoring 20 years ago when they died, it sat in a scrapyard after that. Needs a lot of love in the floor/rocker panel areas. Runs, no title.
Jaxon Johnson
For how much and how extensive is the rust?
Luke Morales
$500, needs new floors and rockers, quarters can be saved
Colton Smith
for $500, that's pretty good by midwest standards. Go for it bro
Jack Gray
I don't want to be unclear about this and get you in over your head, this car needs a total restoration before it's drivable. Interior is gone, brakes don't work, and the fuel system is made of despair. But if you're up for a real project there's enough to get you started
Alexander Turner
Work on my S30 is progressing slowly... I underestimated how much I hate bodywork. However a potential roomie is a bodyman... So to fill my need of a cool car in the meantime, bought a Z32. Don't hate me.
David Myers
Hell, I'd take it for 500 bucks. Shame you don't live in SC.
Luis Reed
>series 1 Itll be worth something too among datsun enthusiasts
But realistically don't expect it to sell it soon. A lot of really clean datsuns for sals out there but no one will pay for the premium
Brayden Anderson
>that quarter panel
Don't mind me, I'm just gonna nope the fuck out of that
Dominic Miller
Pretty sure most of you have seen it already but...
Picked up a 1980 Datsun 280ZX 2 seater 5 speed hardtop for 500 dollars. Doesn't run because fuel pump is bad (installing Friday) and needs lots of TLC
I love how easy the L28 engine is to repair, and parts are ridiculously cheap compared to the Z31 and the MA70
Jack Clark
It's a parts car/eventually restore kinda deal for me. I'm not really looking to sell but if someone wants it I can let it go
Colton Rogers
I'd buy that for 500 bucks
Justin Price
niiiiiiice, I wish I could find deals like that; the 280ZX has risen in value on the west coast.
Henry Kelly
hi ddt, I'm new to the datsun scene. How kosher would it be to drop a 2jz in say a 260z or 280zx? I know it's not gonna be done in a weekend but would it be... okay in the datsun scene? Or is it heavily frowned upon?
The main reason I'm asking is that I like the body style of the S30 and S130, but finding a good running one could cost me a little more than I would want to spend. I figured spending time finding a clean shell missing stuff and dropping in a very tuneable engine that can handle a lot of power can turn it into kind of a GT-R type car.
William Wright
Let's just say this: the mantra of HybirdZ, one of the largest online forums for Z ownership of any generation, is "anything but stock"
So yeah: it wouldn't be kosher, but I don't think it'd be frowned upon at all; it's at least an inline, Japanese six cylinder engine.
And why is it so hard to find a running 280ZX? Fuckers are cheap as hell compared to S30's.
Also, welcome, have a nice photo of an S130 (also good on you for knowing the difference already)
Ian Green
also, fun fact for the cheap skates among us who need a grill for an S30 but don't want to get ass raped for a $300 replacement, or run shitty chicken wire pieces of shit: the '05-'07 (or was it '08?) Mustang grills that always get thrown away fit fine with a little bit of fitting.
Nicholas Cox
...
Jeremiah Wilson
Searching craigslist gets me one very well running one at 3750, and while very very nice still does have small problems that I would rather not bother to deal with (such as r12 ac recharge, small engine problems, etc), and it's only one.
One day, I will complete an engine swap S130.
Thanks for all the info!
Jaxson King
dude, it's cheap and easy to freshin up an L-series. Find a $1,500 car and go to town.
Also, fuck A/C. If you're concerned about that, find another car bro.
Michael Taylor
newest build idea: replicating this with a Datsun 210-SL here from the states (which were rebadged Nissan Sunny 310's, which this car is). They're disappearing fast since they all head to the scrapper, but it'd be a fun thing to do with em. Maybe an SR swap, or something else fast and four cylinder-y
William Johnson
How bad is the rust on the rear fenders and dogleg?
Chase Diaz
They're pretty bad but not gone, they can be saved with some serious welding time
Hahaha I hope this guy got emberassed once he rewatched this video.
Andrew Butler
It rains Sunday here in Sacramento, and my unpainted 240 sits on the driveway.
You know what that means: skipping class and paint prep, then painting Saturday.
NO SLEEP TILL: PAINTEEEEED
Ryan Adams
Ready to weld in the LH dogleg!
Ian Young
I thought the 240 was borked, or did you get another one?
David Green
The orange 240Z is Bjork'd, but the black '72 240Z chassisI purchased for $500 with title isn't :D
By Sunday, this nigga is gonna be painted jet black. Fingers crossed that it won't look like dogshit
Michael Garcia
Hell then, if you come across any parts you don't need, I'd be happy to buy them. For instance, I'm 99% sure El Rusto needs a new circut board for the gauges. I'd hate to pull the dash on a hunch, but it seems to be the only thing left that could be wrong.
Oh yeah, I finally rigged a voltage regulator bypass. At least the battery doesn't die anymore.
Blake Sanders
How hard is it to find a pre-emission regulated 240 for sale? Would 72 be the cutoff date, or is it 73?
Tyler Brooks
1973 or 1974. I have a 260z that was made in march of '74 and it has emissions shit on it.
Jordan Parker
Motherfucker I have the entire dash harness for it and I think once you get the full story, you'll want it. I'll give you whatever shit I won't keep as spares, just pay shipping.
Grayson Cox
I'll work on some other little bits on it then. I have a few tests I'm gonna run first. Hate pulling dashes with a burning passion.
Christopher Perry
Honestly though. I was just funposting at the end. Truly though, I cannot enjoy driving without AC on some days. I can live without, but I'd rather have it.
I may just build up an S130 like said. Easier and probably has a higher return value.
Andrew Cruz
Been busy lately but finally got a chance to scrape and sand some shit off. Here's before

What's worse is driving without any heat. Shit happened to my DD and I had to drive El Rusto in single digit weather with do driver side window.
Jeremiah Ortiz
Ouuuuuch, that's gotta suck. I can't imagine not having heat in a car; although that's exactly the problem with our '70 Chevy pickup. It's cooooold.
Samuel Richardson
I think it's pretty easy to remove though, and if it's pre 75 I think it's smog exempt
Dominic Williams
Correct and correct. It's mostly junk on the manifold.
