Merak was too lazy to go through any real changes.
Jota was a minotaur.
Viper was a full time unicorn rather than just for some attacks.
Zonda was some sort of jester. (molester?)
"Elise" was completely scrapped and redone from scratch.
I'm guessing Carrera was the last to be conceived, and took Zonda's place as an actual boss.

Switch the Prevasion pendant and the Archie Comics issue for something else and that looks pretty good.

It looks like a regular mecha show with megaman characters instead of something proper, it's weird.
Like it involves space, artificial humans, artificial alien biomachines. It's quite a deal.

This AU would then have to have a version of Duo as a main plot point.

He could be one of the King Cepheus' generals or maybe be with Dr.Cossack from the start.
