Depends on the truck, and there isn't much an inframe doesn't fix. Always have $15k set aside for some sleeves and rings.

Depends on the year of the truck. Mechanical engines get a drain and filters every 10k, ECM motors bump that up to around 15k, and by the time EGR rolls around you're looking at 20k drain intervals, and the latest emissions turds boast 50k service intervals. Just change the filters at mid-interval if you're going more than 10k between drains. $40 if you do it yourself, $90- $140 if you pay a shop to do it.

Get a grease gun and throw greasing into your pretrip once a week. Some lazy fucks get pneumatic or electric grease guns, then jizz grease out of every zerk and seal, but if you're greasing weekly nothing is going to need more than 3-5 pumps with a $25 hand pumped grease gun. I recommend a mini gun with a flexible hose because kingpins are a bitch to get at without turning the wheels on some trucks. You'll go through about a mini cartridge and 4 terry rags a month, so that's $15. Be sure you hit the grease fittings in your monthly truck wash. I prefer a coin-op, but truck friendly locations are rare. A $20 wash at a coin op is usually better than a $70 wash at the streaky beacon.

Change the air filters every other engine drain. If in doubt, just pop it out, give it a shake, and see if the sun shines through it. If it doesn't, swap it out. Engine air filters run from $30 for old mechanicals up to about $150 for the maxxfarce. Cabin air filters are about $20 and need to be changed every 6 months. Takes 60 seconds, just do it during a pretrip since the hood is open anyway.

Alignment is a once every quarter million miles or so service as long as you aren't seeing really funky tire wear that isn't due to air pressure or kingpin slop. Costs $150- $500, and you get what you pay for.

Get virgin tires and assume they'll last 100,000 miles. Divide their price by 100,000 and that's what you need to set aside every mile to replace that tire. An O/O driven tire will last 150,000-300,000 miles, but don't setting aside tire money. The extra will cover blowouts, physical damage, and wheel/valve stem replacement and mounting/ balancing costs. Run aluminum wheels, they're worth every penny. A good tire costs anywhere from $200 for a dry van trailer tire up to $700 for a quality steer tire, or $1400 for SS.

I've been in OH/MI/PA all week. When tf was the monsoon? Sure, it rained for 3 days, but I was constantly fucking with wiper speed.

I'm getting 2 flatspotted tires on the trailer replaced, and 4 new rear drives. Trying to decide between the new Yokohama MY577's to replace my old 517's, or go with a more typical flatbed brand like Samson or Continental. I'd save about $800 an axle, but I've never had an issue with Yokohamas at around $1600 an axle.

Going to patch some tarps this weekend if the rain lets up and it doesn't get too hot. Picking up a new 6' machine tarp to get dirty as well.

Adding to the tire section, its worth it to get your steers rotated side to side every now and then. Some guys do every 50K, some manufacturers even have recommended rotation methods. Michelin has a directional steer that, at one point, they recommended be run BACKWARDS after 50k, and run the right direction after another 50K.

Also, if you buy a volvo (please don't), expect your steer tires to be good for 100K at best, and anything extra as a bonus. Volvo's in the last few years have been real bastards on steer tires and a lot of guys are having a hard time getting tires to last on the front. Generally its because they normally weigh 13000# on a 13200# axle regardless of any other weight and thats normally pushing a 14 ply steer. Of course, you could run a 16 ply, but that makes for a harder ride, and thats normally not good enough for the princesses that own them.

Are there any flatbed companies that have CDL schools? I owe a lot of money to my community college here from scamming fafsa for NEET money many years ago. That thing probably needs an overhaul. Ask him if it would pass DOT inspection as well. You are probably looking at an extra $25K on it to get it OTR ready.

There are schools out there that are legally allowed to train students in trucks that probably haven't passed a DOT inspection since the 90s. It's appalling. When I got into trucking in 2012, I started at a private school. The truck was a '87 Pete that didn't even have working lights and it had no windshield. I was paying $6,000 for that shit. I left halfway through the first day and signed up at Swift. I had no troubles there. I admit they worry about rushing you out the door and getting you in their trucks than properly training you, but they never forced me to go solo until I felt safe. I worked there for a year and they treated me well. I wasn't getting paid shit, but I didn't complain. After a year, I quit to go back to college. I lasted 2 semesters in nursing school before I got the bug to get back on the road. I got hired on to a small flatbed company running the south central US. Now I'm owner operator and drive pretty much anywhere I want to go to. I mostly stay east of I-35 and take a few trips to Canada each year.

The school I went to had 2012 prolapses that were still legal, I paid $4,400 for a three week course, and every driver I talk to agrees that the school I went to is the best in the region and better than the majority of company training programs. Glad I got on to flatbed. Only bullshit I ever have to deal with like this is going into Military bases. When I ran vans, every place we delivered or picked up from is some plant full of union workers that take their sweet time doing anything. In most cases with flatbed and I'm secured and ready to go within 2 hours tops. When I drove van it sometimes took longer than 2 hours for a drop and hook because I sit there for hours waiting for somebody to sign papers and which trailer to pick up.

How strict are DOT physicals on fat fucks like myself? If I can't pass and get away from this hell hole to some company school, I may very well just kill myself. I've tried every option of moving away. I don't want to be stuck here making $10/hour at a factory my whole life.

Do I have to pay for it? I have no insurance. I'm going to a doctor that's at a "workplace wellness" center of a hospital. If I can get financial aid for them, I should be able to get it for their sleep study program. I don't mind taking it, I just can't pay out of pocket. I know I don't have it though. I sleep 10+ hours and stay up 24 hours at a time.

Your first years you'll top out at around $60-65k as Flatbed for a company. Box you can see about $45 on the top end. As OO you can get that, but most everything will just go back to upkeep and general overhead.

$45K for box? Feel bad for those. I took more than that home after taxes last year driving dry van. I hate it though. Flatbed drivers drive half as much yet make the same. I'm putting in applications for flatbed companies but nobody is calling or emailing me. Guess it's wrong time of the year?

Is this as an owner? Because those numbers are optimistic for a rookie driver. It's honestly probably closer to $30k the first 12mos working right out of school because of training and all the bullshit and mistakes.

I think he bought that Freightshaker cash. It wasn't that expensive but you have to be ready for big repairs. There is less shit to go wrong with an older truck but it helps if you can wrench because you will save yourself a bunch off smaller repair bills.

I feel for you. Some days are going to be like that though. Just make it easier to enjoy the good ones.
