I'd recommend starting by finding one item you really like and creating the rest of your glamour around it. Having a general "look" and color scheme in mind helps, too! If you're okay with hats that's usually a good place to start. Basing the rest of your outfit around one undyeable piece works well, too.

Male Elezen and Elezen in general have wonky running animation that take some time to get used to, but they look really great in heavy armor and have some great poses. And a good looking Elezen is a rarity!
Really, I'd recommend trying it out. If you end up not liking it you can always go back to catboy or try a different race in the future.
