More footage from Mega Man Y+1 if you're interested, this time showing the stage select and the intro boss. Some slight changes have happened since posting the video (namely, the devil parts move across the screen faster and the HP visual glitch is fixed), but apart from that everything here is accurate. If our programmer gets their way, footage of Toxic Man's fight might come up once they're done, but there'll probably be slightly less footage for a while.

On a playable point of view, progress is slow but steady currently. We've currently only got one programmer (who's currently teaching others to use Unity C# to help IIRC), but said programmer has basically signed a blood contract with themselves to make sure this game gets finished. That being said, any additional help with programming would definitely be appreciated.

To answer the cartoon question, the north american animation industry has always been in canada since the 90s. Just look at Ruby Spears. They do that simply because it's cheaper and simply because the animators are underpaid. Cartoons are rarely ever animated in the states unless they're big money maker shows like Steven Universe.
