I don't browse /v/ but i did browsed Veeky Forums for a while, and if i remember correctly. Moot created Veeky Forums because of a visual novel that caused loads of threads that flooded /v/ along with pokemon (that's the reason of /vp/), Dota, team fortress 2.

If you merge two boards you cut page count in half. Meaning half the max image and post hosting.

Do it to three boards and you cut that into a 3rd. and repeat.

It doesn't really lower traffic speed, but lowers storage requirements.

Which can be a huge issue for boards that have 300 image post threads sitting for upwards of 45 days without dying on page 10.

It's Veeky Forums board has actually grown quite a bit since last year.
It used to be a few threads with 2 replies per day but last I checked it was active
