Lets share some facts about platform sharing and parts bin specials, where you can get decent bolt-on upgrades for your car by using OEM parts off another car.
Example: Though the share almost NOTHING, the Huge Brembo brake calipers from the second generation Cadillac CTS-V bolt right onto the stock spindles of an American market Chevy Sonic. With no modifications.
That's pretty strange, is there any stuff like this for volvos?
Joseph Baker
Unsure. Probably. look it up. Volvos had sister cars among Ford and Lincoln so it's worth looking. Example: The Volvo C30, Ford Focus, and Mazda 3 all share the same platform. and have numerous interchangeable parts.

The Ford 2.3/2.5 Lima engines. Famous for powering the Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and the Ford Mustang SVO. Did you know you can do a DOHC 16 valve conversion by using the cylinder head from an unrelated Volvo engine? The Volvo engine in question with the compatible head is the B234F. It's not a complete molt on but the amount of modifications for it to work is very minor and cheap. merkurtech.com/merkurtech/techarticles/item045.php

Subaru, Mitsubishi and Toyota all have easily shared parts between models.
Things like evo brembos on galant/magna for mitsubishi, supra pretty much anything for soarers and subarus are legendary for this.

Honda engine facts:
F and H series engines have identical bellhousings and even interchange heads with minor modification. Its one of the ways you can get a g23 engine which is an f23 block with an h22 head. The reason to do this is because the f23 block is stronger, and doesnt have FRM sleeves and the h22 head is one of hondas best flowing heads period.
Any d-series or b-series head/block will fit another engine of the same series without modification. The only thing you may have to check is certain d15b7 and b-series models for piston/valve contact as some of them were 8 valve engines with only 8 valve reliefs in the pistons instead of 16.

People generally look at the Pontiac Sunbird as a reliable car that's pretty disposable, making them hard to find up North. Surprisingly, if you know where to look, you can make a fantastic sleeper from a 2.0L 4 cylinder model. The Sunbird is often said to be a Pontiac badged Carbon copy of the Chevrolet Cavalier, and it's true in many aspects. But the 4 cylinder engines used by the 2 cars are unrelated. While Chevy went for a 2.0L or 2.2L pushrod engine known for being reliable but slow, Pontiac instead used 1.8L and 2.0L Opel engines, which while having the same 8 valve layout as the Chevy 4 bangers, used an SOHC layout instead. When The Sunbird became the Sunfire in 1995, Pontiac dropped the Opel engines and used the same 4 banger as Chevy. Meanwhile in Europe, Opel kept developing that 4 banger. Eventually, they released DOHC 16 valve variants where the heads were designed by Lotus. Due to platform sharing, Daewoo used a variant of those 16V Lotus-head engines when selling in America. As a result, the DOHC 16 valve head from a US market Daewoo Nubira, Leganza, Suzuki Forenza, or Reno will bolt right onto the Pontiac block with no modifications and are capable of taking advantage of the aftermarket support for the Lotus-head Opels. Camshafts, pistons, valvetrain upgrades, etc. The world becomes your oyster. In some circles in Europe, the Opel DOHC 4 bangers are spoken in the same vain as Mitsubishi's 4G63 or Honda's B-series.
Pic related. Pontiac Sunbird Turbo with a Daewoo cylinder head.

There was a similar thing with the old A series mini engine, 16v bmw motorbike heads can be fitted with a bit of work and apparently make a decent amount of power.

On the MK1 SVT Focus, the base model Contour engine thermostat housing is able to be used in placed of the split molded model that comes from the factory.
It is able to withstand much greater pressures at the o-ring before failing. It simply bolts right into place.
>requires a kit (Massive performance) For a fairly fair price, you can buy a conversion kit (with all the parts) to switch to the front end Mustang GT rotors, double piston caliper, steal brake lines.
You just have to keep the factory 17" wheels or equivalent.
