Dude wants to trade his VStrom 650 for my SV 650.. Problem is... his is a year 12, mines an 06. I'm worried about insurance differences :( why can't I just be 25 already. Waiting on the VIN now, but I'll be pretty sad if it's more than what I already pay for insurance.
And his is a NICE looking one too, just 4 thousand more miles than I have on mine, turns on, doesn't sound weird or anything. Once I ride it, see how it fits I'd definitely be up for it. But if insurance is a prob, it's gonna bum me out.

Rates are higher for newer bikes is the problem. I pay a comfortable 26 bucks a month. But I've seen what newer bikes costs (upwards of 70 a month).

Thinking about buying some for my Ninja 250.
I'm a second-year rider on an R3, started out on a Ninja 250. For any anons unfamiliar with the inside-baseball, the Ninja 250 is ranked somewhere in the 3-5 range of best bike, while the R3 and GS500 duke it out over the 1 and 2 slots.
I was always impressed by the performance of the Ninja 250, but it just isn't in the same league as my R3. The drop-off in engine performance when you leave the 250cc class is pretty steep, and it must be even steeper when you look at sub-250cc bikes. I mean this in the least arrogant way possible.
The consensus on /dbt/ is that most of the value-added comes from the additional low-end torque. I can't speak to the quality of other bikes, but the dominance of the R3 self-perpetuates pretty easily. Knowing that I'm riding the best performing bike for its class is a comforting thought.
None, I didn't put them on though. The PO did. But they're silicone, so why fix something that isn't broke and better than rubber.

I rode SV once, it feels like usual bike. I ride DL daily, it is top heavy. definitely not the same. Wheelbase and suspension make noticeable differences too.

I wish that graphite color was available in the US FZ-07s. The only FZ-07 colors I like are the red/black and white/black on the 2015 model. I'm very happy with my red/black color, but that graphite color is very sexy.

It depends a lot on who you're riding against and what tires are they have.
You'll get blown the fuck out on the straights (90hp vs 120hp or so modern 600s have). The suspension is fairly on par provided you adjusted it well and it brakes more than enough.
Given enough corners it'll keep up with modern 600s just fine provided you are good enough. As soon as wide enough corners or a straights come around, you start lagging behind gradually.
It is a very capable bike and I still have to master it, and if I throw it against a tire barrier it was only 800€ to begin with.
9/10 would buy again.
