Go into the osa settings and toggle Purity Mode. Exit the gui and reopen it. There should be a few new settings now. One of them does it.

I was thinking of getting into Skyrim again with the release of SE, but so far all I am reading is that SE is rather bad for modding.

It's not that it's bad for modding, it's a great platform. It's just SSE needs time for mods to be ported over and for an SKSE equivalent to be made. Many good mods require SKSE and that isn't compatible with SSE, yet.

In time it'll be updated and will definitely be a better system for modding than Oldrim.
