Get Generations BUT only if you go in knowing there's a lot of shit like gathering and small monster quests and speech bubbles that you need to get through. There's a fun game once you get through the shit.

You can transfer your save though. So it's better to get Generations and make it to end game in time to do the G rank stuff when the new game comes out.

Gen is great too. But if you want to play 4th gen, you should really play it sooner rather than later. Gen isnt going anywhere soon. But if you think 4U is dead NOW, wait until XX launches. Plus, XX is Q1 2017, so you have at least a year before Generations U launches. Plenty of time.
