There are 5 different "class types" (warrior, mage, etc) and each of those has 5 different classes to choose from.
Two characters will share the same classtype meaning that in the end, you have 25 unique classes.
Each class has it's own stats (rrpg.jp/capture/mary_skelter/status.html) and skills that you can learn (rrpg.jp/capture/mary_skelter/fighter.html), and these skills cross over if you class change them. You can only learn skills with "CP" which you can't undo, though, and you gain 1 with each level up, so you need to plan out what sort of character you want.
For a few of the classes, I ended up just running through most of the game as one class and then hopping through classes to learn the skills I wanted before leaving them in the class with the best stats.
