maybe he didn't want to risk shidou being able to bury or spin a single scandal, wanted to bring down his whole career and legacy
Joshua Carter
Which is another proof that he had no future to look forward.
He's not very bright then
John Anderson
If anything, it sounded like he was fully aware what outing Shidou meant for himself. Can't out him without outing his own involvement (either directly or because Shidou would), and he clearly knew what would happen once everything was known (since he says as much after his boss fight).
No. The special investigations department chief thought of it while on the phone with Shidou, but Shidou already came up with the idea himself by then, and a more elaborate plan to make it work.

That's kind of the point. He's not nearly as clever as he thinks he is, and has no idea the thieves were onto him and pulled one over on him until it was too late, and he's completely taken aback when he finds out Shido planned on offing him.
Which is likely because he let his genius detective thing get to his head despite the fact that he's only in that position because he set up all those cases in the first place.

Goro is smart, smart enough to set up all those cases and made an elaborate plan to fool the public, but like said, he's not the super genius detective he pretends to be, and most likely way too confident of his plans than he should be.
To be fair though, he didn't have any idea that the thieves were into him because he didn't know that Morgana was the one who said the pancake line.

Yeah, probably he became "genius teen detective" only sole for the fame. Hell, Akechi Goro probably not his real name too. He picked the name from Edogawa ranpo's novel to solidify his reputation and he want people to think "Wow! He's genius at solving these cases. He's really indeed the incarnation of Akechi Kogoro!"

Then where his surname came from? His mother? And he definitely would not take the surname Masayoshi because he don't want to be connected with his dad.

So where are the rules for the November 16th stream drinking game?
Drink when someone asks about dual audio Drink when Hardin/Host talks about how hard working the dub people are Drink when people defend the already awful sounding localization Drink when someone mentions Goro being the traitor Enjoy not seeing 2017

Hardin was advising people to ignore the chat on his twitter. It doesn't sound like they'll go sub only. They dug their own graves with the whole dub-only bullshit. Banning people who complain in the chat about it is only going to make them angrier, and in the end they still want them to buy their product, so there's really no 'good' way to handle this. A stream was an awful idea.
Andrew Evans
A stream is a wonderful idea. It shows off their amazing dub and front choices!
Josiah Butler
If they wanted to promote the game, a simple hour long YouTube video would be seen by more people and won't be met with a chat full of angry unfiltered people.
Luke Carter
It really is fucking stupid. I'll definitely be in the chat asking about dual audio, but I won't be spoiling the game or hurling abuse at them. While I'm sure some people there will be doing just that, they can be justifiably banned for spoiling/swearing etc. But if Atlus start banning people asking for dual audio in a civilized manner then that'll fall back on them hard. Their best course of action is to just ignore them, but that doesn't stop people reading the chat from seeing it.
Seriously though, why the fuck don't they just do dual audio? It's pretty fucking clear that they're aware people want it by now.
Joseph Phillips
It's possible reverse importation for Arena and Ultimax (did that even have dual audio?) was so high despite their measures around it Atlus Japan just will not allow it under any circumstance because they don't want any Japanese players getting it at non ridiculous Japanese prices.
Gavin Sullivan
Probably some reason or another that makes them feel it's too much trouble and thus keeping only the dub is simpler for them, despite their customers expressing clear interest in dual audio.
Robert Perez
That's not it. P5 has the Japanese audio in Korea and China. It's just the US that doesn't. Games that Atlus JP have literally nothing to do with like Spike Chunsoft's Conception 2 were done by Atlus USA and that was also dub-only. If that doesn't make it clear that it's Atlus USA's own decision not to do dual audio, then I don't know what will.
Jackson Baker
>That's not it. P5 has the Japanese audio in Korea and China. It's just the US that doesn't.
But there's no english dub in that (or korean or Chinese for that matter) right? They kind of don't have a choice there. There's no dual audio there either.
Jack Murphy
speaking of, did anything ever happen with yusuke wanting to paint her, or did they just sorta drop that character thread once the palace started in earnest?
Ian Hill
But if Atlus JP were worried about reverse importing due to the Japanese audio track, then they wouldn't allow it. There's no reason why they wouldn't allow the Japanese audio in the western release if they would in the Chinese/Korean ones if they were scared of reverse importing. And again, it's very clearly an Atlus USA decision.
Adrian Ortiz
Just a reminder to this, Chunsoft released it later on PC with Atlus USA translations AND dual audio. Atlus USA just doesn't want dual audio and no amount of complaints will change this because they know people will buy their shit.
Sebastian Young

P4A was region locked, nobody was reverse importing that shit. The reason it was region locked was because it came out simultaneously in the west and Japan, and it not only had dual audio, but dual text as well. It's understandable that in a situation like that they'd fear reverse importing, but they're not pedantic enough to worry about a game releasing six months later with english text only that isn't fully voiced being reverse imported. And P4A's localization was developed by Arc System Works in conjunction with Atlus USA, and since it's the sole Atlus USA title to have dual audio, it's highly likely it was ArcSys that footed the bill for it. Atlus JP's biggest crime is not being capable of a simultaneous localization, which in all fairness is something that the majority of Japanese developers are guilty of. There's absolutely not evidence pointing toward them denying Japanese audio, and there's a plethora of it including the Conception II scenario mentioned by pointing towards Atlus USA. Feeling sorry for Atlus USA because "they get pushed around by the japanese department" is a waste of time. They're not a company worth wasting such sentiments on.

Read their twitter, every P5 related tweet is met with dozens of "dual audio please" replies, and their YouTube videos consist of the same things in the comments. Same goes for comments on the game on articles like Gematsu or Siliconera.
Unless this is you Hardin, feel free to carry on with your job. Otherwise user, shut the fuck up.

please do not respond to bait that lazy
really though if none of that is reflected in sales then its moot. p5's performance in the western market will be worth keeping an eye on, not any comment section
Gabriel Mitchell
This is the fact of the matter. A few diehard seiyuu fanboys on the internet are not the majority of the english speaking player population, most of which either don't care or actively prefer the english version.
They've done focus studies on this shit over and over. People prefer english versions to Japanese in all fields be it anime or games.
And unless a game comes out in both regions at once, in which case it usually has dual audio in both versions, it's typically english only. Putting in two voice tracks for a game that orignially only had one is extra work they probably don't think is worth the effort.
For example, the .hack series. The original 4 games had dual audio because the orignial Japanese had two audio tracks, a regular and a gag track so they used the extra space from the other track to fit the Japanese track in because there was another track in the audio files anyway. The sequel series however, was English only because there was only one audio track in the Japanese version.
I'm pretty sure most RPGs coming out don't have dual audio anyway.

>People prefer english versions to Japanese You have to take quality into account though. Would people prefer dubs to subs if scripts were always well localized and the voice acting top notch? Yes, absolutely. I think everyone would. But good dubs are uncommon due to a variety of factors, hence all the dual audio fags. I'd honestly rather listen to mediocre Japanese performances than mediocre English performances because then at least I'll have a harder time noticing any deficiencies with the acting. It's much easier to say that a script sucks or a line was delivered awkwardly when it's your native language.
