Between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratios which one you would prefer for X? Her pose makes me think of 4:3 but there are ways to use such sprites in 16:9 too like in Evenicle with its massive sidebar.

I think that it'll be similar to the end of Kichikuou where Ludo is tricked rather than outright beaten, though I think he'll be tricked in a way that he'll suffer rather than be happy.
