I suppose it's possible but I believe Vulcan Heel was supposed to be a metroidvania and Indivisible is filling that role now

There are a ton of ways to do a metroidvania type game.
Valkyrie Profile gameplay wouldn't have been on most people's minds as an inspiration for one either.

Maybe Vulcan Heel could be more of a run and gun with interconnected levels, like Blaster Master/MMZ/ZX
...or maybe a beat-em-up with branching paths like D&D or the Arkham games
...or split the exploration into smaller chunks like Dragon Buster or Clash at Demonhead
...or maybe there could be team survivor element like Alien Infestation or the first TMNT.
Maybe it's procedurally generated, or a pure roguelike. Maybe it's an genre mashup with exploration like Guardian Legend or Sigma Star.

Definitely still a lot of stuff they could do.

Yeah, you're right. There's a lot of ways to do a Metroidvania and the VP style combat is a unique element of Indivisible.

I would absolutely love a run and gun LZ game considering Contra(which I love) is firmly in the grave. Although I don't know how much experience Mike has in the genre.

If you're as unused to fighting games as I was when I started, it's a bit to take in. The combos aren't terribly difficult, but when it came to playing neutral I felt lost if my opponent didn't let me leroy jenkins into them with j.MP and I never got the hang of actually utilizing hatred guard. Always forgot about it, then after a set I'd look back to half a dozen fairly obvious situations where it'd be prudent. She's no retail fukua but a bit of practice and you could have a lot of fun with her. if you really like to quarter circle back

I imagine the space is infinitely looping.
