It's written in a way so you sympathize with the female main characters though, most of the men depicted are stated to have done terrible things and it's never excused or outright forgiven.

The men are at most given a chance to try and redeem themselves while the women show growth and strength. Also Morgana didn't give up on her hatred because of Michel alone, it was a team effort with Giselle, who encouraged him to do it in the first place.

I don't know, it seems to me like both genders were given a fairly even shake, with victims/victimizes aplenty on both sides. Hell, even at his worst, someone like Jacopo felt more sympathetic than the WHG because the latter was very much lacking in humanity (intentionally so). Sure, Jacopo was more flawed, but it was because of those flaws that he was such a good and enjoyable character. And Maria, a female, was the puppet-master behind most of the mischief anyway, and her motivations were comparatively more unsympathetic compared to Jacopo's heavy insecurities.

Amongst the main male characters, there aren't any that come across as unsympathetic, not to mention that their most extreme cases were effectively caused by Morgana's curse. Hell, the most unsympathetic character in the entire cast, Aimee, is a female.

Never got the vibes that Fata was ever making stabs at gender issues. Even the obvious example of Michel's asexuality is more of an tie-in to divinity and angelic qualities.
