Hemispherical heads are still efficient as fuck and no one ever uses them because they're retarded. Variable valve timing, while doing nothing for active performance, still makes the Hemi more efficient for daily driving - the most common application in all V8s among modern cars.

They have all the money in the world to do crazy shit and they build boring turboshits that use technology the Japanese have been running in cars since the late 80s.
