So I decided to come back to the game since several friends are playing it.

I got to lvl50 on a PLD but quit because I honestly just felt inadequate queueing for dungeons since my gear was so below everyone and people were just rushing to bosses AoEing everything down. Could barely even hold aggro. I got to ilvl90 by grinding daily quests for tokens to use on gear but by that point I lost interest in the game.

Not sure exactly if I'm phrasing what I want to ask correctly but I guess how's the atmosphere right now for someone who is still relatively new to tanking? Should I just level a WHM so I can see content in the background and get a hand on things?

Aside from spamming "LF hunt LS" in the major hubs, what more can I do? Nobody gets back to me. I looked up linkshells on the lodestone and sent /tells to their owners if I found them in player search asking if I could join. Of the two I caught logged in, neither responded.

I bothered to do the full yo-kai event grind, because it had a lot of active participation and wasn't so terrible. I can't do this solo hunting A ranks shit. 90% of my time is spent map searching the same maps over and over until I kill something and track the respawn clocks.

I don't actually know any server where hunting is still a major thing, so it's not exclusive to wherever you are. The only time I even see people talk about hunts on several servers is whenever they see a B and call it out in shout in case anyone cares about where it is

There's nothing wrong with the atmosphere of the game, you jumped in and didn't expect things to be different from whenever you played before. By the sound of it, the last time you played you didn't even make it to endgame.

I don't have a character on Gilgamesh, so I guess I can't say. Across the servers I do play on? No. Excalibur had several once upon a time, just as an example, and they were all tied to a teamspeak. But it peaked back in 2.3, and only had a brief spike in hunt activity through all of HW. Now the only people who care about hunts are the people who care to get the wyvern mount and nothing else
