How do they even survive as a luxury marque?

Haldex. Meme AWD.

Badgewhores and the awd meme

>buying a rebadged VW

you're not ripping hektik skidz in a luxury car so it doesn't matter

They don't look like factory rice thats how.

Haldex is not meme AWD you yard, it's actually good because extra power goes to the rear instead of up the steering column

It's still FWD-based AWD tho
RWD is superior for luxury vehicles, the dynamics on the highway are better than on FWD. If I was a German executive traveling on the autobahn in a chauffeured car I'd rather be in a BMW or a Mercedes than on an Audi 2bh.

this

all new american and japanese cars look like riced out 2000s car with their exaggerated angry looks

Audis look much more grown up and sophisticated as well as giving off that aura off european luxury
and remember that normies dont care about muh fwd, thats just an Veeky Forums meme

Woah, gotta self check those digits.
>extra power goes to the rear instead of up the steering column
This is why it baffles me that they are successful with their FWD "luxury" cars. A FWD A8 probably sucks compared to a RWD S-klasse or 7-series.
Americans can't into luxury sedans though, not since decades ago.

>The R8 is FWD-based

>The R8 is relevant

Went from a Passat to an A4, never looked back.

A4s use Torsen, not Haldex

>Went from a Passat to an A4, never looked back.
Isn't it basically a glorified Passat?

The only generation where Passat and A4/A6 were closely related was the B5. Later and earlier ones shared more with the Golf.

Don't all of them use Torsen center diffs tho?

This must be bait right?

Have you driven a luxury car before? You set the cruise control and just watch the miles go by. What dynamics are you referring to?

I'm referring to delivering power to the front axle on a comfortmobile.

All generations of A4/A6 do, any other Passat than the B5 uses Haldex.

B5.5 Passat to B8 A4

Oh, that explains it, you had a B5.5 and you took the B8.
Brands aside, do you think you'd change it for a Merc or a Bimmer if given the chance? Or even for another D-segment with RWD?

Maybe a BMW if I found one I liked *only* because the tuner shop near my house (which makes these affordable to maintain) only works on Volkswagen Group and BMW products.

Mercedes has a nearby dealership, if I wanted to be raped financially I'd get a hot-looking girlfriend.

Incorrect once again, faggot, longitudinal configured Passat 4motions use torsen, just like in Audi's, longitudinal = TorSen, Transverse = Haldex

Yeah, and which Passat gens have longitudinal engines? Only the B5 as far as I know.

>Mercedes has a nearby dealership, if I wanted to be raped financially I'd get a hot-looking girlfriend.
How about taking it to Scotty? :^)

Only the poser audis have haldex. I.e a3, tt

>tt
>poser
I've dreamed about a TT since I was a kid, it just looks incredibly cool. The first gen one, that is.

Well it's literally a beetle with a bodykit

You are referring to the 911

No I mean they literally share the same platform
Although I think the new ones are now using the golf platform

New Beetles were Golfs with a bodykit as well. The TT has always been a Golf with a bodykit and none of the practicality.

interiors are comfy as fuck.

But do they come even close to Mercs, Bimmers, Jaguars and the like?
One thing I know for sure is that they depreciate a lot faster in my country than Mercs

>2008 A8 Automatic (V8)
>$39k

>2007 S350
>$72k

Interiors are definitely the thing Audi (or even VAG in general) does right.

I drive a Mazda with a Haldex and I can assure you it's not meme wheel drive

Lol wtf you can have a 07 s350 with less than 100k miles for like 30k euros here

the retards who buy those cars dont even know what FWD is.

Here they enter with huge tariffs and you can't import used cars

MS6?

ah ha ha ha

some fwd things to consider

along with a number of other aliment differences to rwd
they run a slight amount of static toe out to compensate for the slack in the suspension bushings as load comes on

any misalignment in the front suspension has much more effect on stability than if the car were rwd
where outside of very rare axle types the rear tires have no need to steer and can be made stronger to resist the power

and in most traverse layouts the position of the gearbox complicate the rest of the drive line
either with more mass or by uneven half shaft cv and tripod joint angles

the thermal and wear demands put on the front tires by having to accelerate and brake
are made worse by being limited in width due the wheel arches having to share space with the engine

despite claims of better packaging often this gain is made by reducing the size and effectiveness of the suspension
not to mention that for further cost cutting reasons the fwd and 4wd car share the same floor pan transmission tunnel and all
even outside of that often the floor pan is corrugated for extra strength and to make room for the exhaust pipe anyway

>

Almost all version of the Haldex only send up to 50% of the power ton the rear when needed. All other times its FWD

But since Audio uses longitudinal FWD platforms, it might be different

Idk about Chevy, but Ford looks Euro.

But I've definitely had a hard on for Audi & VW as far as looks. The new corollas look even shittier, who the fuck are companies trying to market to with their pointy dildos? (Ok, it's probably millenials, but I'm not falling for it.)

I always hear audi and vw a shit though.

the audi audi(ence) is the cheapest of the bunch

This might have some truth to it, I mean, you don't see old money driving Audis most of the time

Different exchange rates. That $72k in dollars for his country might be roughly what is 30k Euros.

Nope, it's USD. Tariffs are to blame. Here you almost pay cars twice, once for the car itself and then in taxes. There's protectionism for cars made in Mercosur (a customs union and trading bloc we're a part of) and further protectionism for cars assembled here.

You know it senpai

>with their pointy dildos
what

>you don't understand, I NEED rwd

i don't get it why RWD would be better for a luxury car you get less efficiency less interior space
FWD should prevail

It's mostly just toyota that I really dislike.

>FWD biased AWD IS THE SAME THING AS FWD
>who cares if its dynamic and sends more to the rear under load
>I NEED RWD TO GO TO MCDONALDS YOU FAGGOT

>Huh mumh that company makes living out of selling cheap shipboard ergo they can't make luxury cars.

Sure lesser audi models like a3, q3 and everything below them is dressed up vw and by the way this isn't a bad thing since vw makes mechanicaly good cars, it is problem only because they are overpriced.

Higher models like a6 and a8 are miles away from a3. You cant say that a8 Quattro is dressed up vw. It is closer to Bentley than it is to any vw honestly.

Also audi has great design. I don't know why people here don't like it. Mercedes looks soapy and soft and bimmer is to angry. I like audis masculine boxy design. A6 a8 and flying spur are pure sex when it comes to design.

B2 and B1s are longitudal.
They are sisters with the Audi 80

Oh I thought they had put a little chub inside it as the gear selector like they did on the Prius

>FWD biased AWD IS THE SAME THING AS FWD
>who cares if its dynamic and sends more to the rear under load
Enjoy your shitty FWD-tier suspension, retard. It's not about the wheels being driven, it's about the suspension.
>I NEED RWD TO GO TO MCDONALDS YOU FAGGOT
So you admit the point of Audis is going to Mickey D's? Because we already know that S-klasse, 7-series, Quattroporte, XJ and others make for great long-distance cruisers.

Nice strawman faggot, nowhere in your post you addressed the fact that their whole lineup is FWD/FWD-based AWD except for the R8 which isn't even the main product they make. And I didn't even mention VW in my post.

Their top luxury sedan, A8L is still FWD based. And no, VW is closer to Bentley than Audi is. Phaeton and Continental share the same platform. A8 on the other hand, is built on the MLB platform.

They don't have Quattro if I recall correctly tho

That thing is so ugly that I wouldn't drive it if I got one for free. WTF, Toyota.

A8s have full aluminum bodies. That alone makes them the standalone favorite if you live in salt country.

Aluminum might not rust, but it corrodes.

Every current longitudinal Quattro car can send up to 70% of the available torque to the front wheels, and up to 85% to the rear. This is constantly controlled by the computer, and it doesn't "prioritize" the front wheels. It just sends the power where it's needed most in any given situation.

Previous-gen Torsen-based Quattro systems had a 40:60 torque split between front and rear, so no front bias there either.

The only front bias systems they have are the Haldex system used in the A3/TT and that new Quattro "Ultra" bullshit, which is basically longitudinal Haldex for better fuel economy. They will still use "real" Quattro AWD for S models and up.

It's not power distribution that bothers me, it's everything that comes with the design being based on a FWD design. See

If anything, their FWD designs are based on the AWD variants. They still mount the engine longitudinally and ahead of the front axle in the FWD cars, unless you're talking about the A3 and TT.

It corrodes much slower than steel rusts; not to mention that aluminum bodywork is a thicker gauge than steel bodywork to get similar weight/strength, so more corrosion can be tolerated before you start having problems.

the only downside to aluminum is that it fatigues faster than steel does when it gets bent/unbent repeatedly, so it might take less to total the car in an accident.

Honda make civics and the NSX, therefore my civic has AWD and 500hp

"""""""""""""""""""""""""""Luxury""""""""""""""""""""""""

>picks the barest-bones base model, emissions-taxed, euro-market only engine rebadged Golf
No fucking shit.

There's a reason I put the A8 in the OP faggot.

I agree. I've never seen a good looking toyota but that's just disgusting. Kill it with fire.

>having a longitudinal engine means it's AWD-based and negates the disadvantages of FWD
lmao

>US cars
lmfao, don't call it a grave. It's the taste of your people.

Hey, I'm just saying the AWD versions aren't an afterthought like on most cars available in FWD and AWD. If anything the FWD versions are an afterthought, and they have arguably worse handling characteristics than transverse FWD cars because the engine's hanging all the way out in front of the axle and it can't send any power to the rear to counteract this.

Didn't he die?

How does "sending power to the rear" counteract bad weight balance? lmao

Of course not, did you fall for that memepost? kek
From 2 hours ago:
youtube.com/watch?v=lhGbhBJxYZ4

I've heard this from weeks ago here at /o. Of all places

I don't think I've ever met someone who likes that design. People buy them for the overblown reputation, and 99% of owners view the car as nothing more than an appliance.

Yeah it was b8

It's much better looking than the US version tho

Yeah I was referring to the ugly US version just stupid wording

B2 does it was marketed as synchro but it's the same system.

>Audi A8
>Not Luxury

ok buddy..

Name a better-looking car for this price.

And I will tell you what's wrong with it.

Accord, Malibu, ... I don't have all day to name dozens of cars.

Nigger those aren't the same class or price as the Corolla.

...

>not as reliable

Next.

You didn't spec class only price fag

>fwd
>luxury

That's not objectively true to be honest. Average reliability says very little about the customer's actual experience with the car.

better driving dynamics in the form of better balance and handling

rwd also just feels better, flooring a rwd vs flooring a fwd is literally a world of difference.

literally all of them lol. and they will all drive infinitely better. your best argument for getting that car is its stellar reliability but thats cause toyota hasnt done shit in innovation in like 20 years

Nothing you mentioned has anything to do with luxury. Please try again.

The guy constantly bashes MB's and BMW's and knows nothing about them? Find a Mercedes-Benz specialist by your house and that's it.

>buy 80k car
>wants it to drive like a 20k econobox

try again

>an A8 drives the same as a $20k shitbox
>not the same platform as the Bentley Mulsanne (comfy as fuck)

try again

what the fuck are you even trying to say, learn to english homo

>a Mercedes-Benz specialist by your house
yeah cause they grow from trees
