ya that pop count seems more accurate. The ledger shows the PoP count, however if you hover the mouse over the PoP count, it will show a pop up with that also includes the total population.

If not I know for a fact 1.01 is stable and I've played it on windows and doesn't have the bug but I haven't actually played 1.02 yet. I know some people were complaining that linux might be bugged but it was about crashing not the event pop-up

base CK2 is on sale for 10 dollars which gives you access to updates, the workshop, multiplayer, and the mod forums which I would feel is well worth it. Reminder that if you like the game, BUY IT :^)
