Have you see Winning:The Racing Life of Paul Newman?

Fantastic doc about his racing career.

I planned to as soon as I can.

I think I would rather be good at a lot of things, than to be great at one thing and suck at everything else.

I'll second this. Something I learned watching that - all his earnings from the dressing went to charity.

He was a co-founder of Newman's Own, a food company from which he donated all post-tax profits and royalties to charity.[2] As of 2016, these donations have totaled over US$460 million.[3] He was also a co-founder of Safe Water Network, a nonprofit that develops sustainable drinking water solutions for those in need.[4] In 1988, Newman founded the SeriousFun Children's Network, a global family of summer camps and programs for children with serious illness which has served 290,076 children since its inception.[5]

I'm sure he was well off with his acting career but it just goes to show what kind of guy he was.

To OP, I too was born in the midwest, moved to LA and now race rally cars. I guess I just need to work on my acting and sauce making careers.
