Overfilling Oil

So after seeing that my engine had a standing rear main leak I decided to investigate. Surprise! What I thought was a V8 5.2 Litre that took 4.7 litres of oil ended up being a V6 3.9 Litre with a 3.9 Litre oil capacity engine.

> mfw It's been being overfilled for years by previous unaware owner causing a rear main leak.

What the fuck.. What are the possible damages that could have occoured from running a quart more of oil for 50k Kilometers?

Overfilling can cause sloshing, foaming, more prone to sludge, but a workhorse engine like the 3.9 I doubt itll do much to it.

how long does it take you to realize that you have 6 cylinders instead of 8?

2 Oil changes... I was fucking baffled

How to you even confuse a 6 for a 8 in the first place? OP confirmed for never having heard a V8 in his life

The previous owner thought it was a V8 and did all his oil changes at Mr. Lube and didn't ask questions as to why oil was covering the bottom of his vehicle. I guess when they scan the VIN at lube it comes up as a V8 or something.. Maybe it got engine swapped or something?

Why do people hate dipsticks?

I guess people just trust oil places to much to get there shit right

holee mackerel, you can't tell a v6 to v8 apart?

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8.
did i get it right?

Looks right to me

What vehicle? Post pics.

Lemme guess.. Dodge dakota?

I don't understand how you confuse a v6 with a v8.

If you don't even know what engine your car has you shouldn't be changing the oil in it.

How could this happen?

> dodge driver
That's how

Regardless .8 quarts of oil shouldn't be enough to cause seals to blow out.

Most engines can take a few extra quarts.

quick lube will break the tip of your dipstick off and then charge you for the drainage and replacement of fluid to get it out

fucking this. Even different variants of the same engine may have different oil capacities.

Hes got that V8 model where two cylinders share a spark plug.

WHY DIDN'T YOU LOOK AT THE FUCKING DIPSTICK YOU FUCKING MORONIC SHIT

>Most engines can take a few extra quarts.
>a few extra quarts
>quarts

Jesus Christ Veeky Forums just fill it until it's at the cap

>not getting your regular oil change at Mr clean for a free car wash

Plebs

>Not knowing the difference between a V6 and a V8
>People going to places like jiffy libe unironically
>Dipsticks are forgotten

I haven't been here in about 6 months, wtf happened Veeky Forums?

lap times, lap times everywhere.

More oil makes your laptimes slower

>he can't tell the difference between between a V6 and and a V8
Welcome to Veeky Forums, where knowing anything about cars is apparantely purely optional.

Im pretty sure it is, but this is mandatory
