is star ruler 4x

I have looked up some negative reviews on Endless Legend - they say that the game mechanics are kiddy-grade and it has bad AI. Is that true?
I had similar problems with two games: Anno 2070 (simple mechanics) and Sins of a Solar Empire (AI can't into diplomacy). However, I've enjoyed both of those.

...

>Second game of Civ 5
>Play Babylon for science
>Starting location seems ok...
>No luxury resources except for some silk, crabs, and Deer
>Spent the first 100 turns with negative happiness and making ~2 gold a turn
>Had to spend the entire early game building happiness and founding policies to increase happiness and gold
>Still win by turn 450 with science despite Arabia and Sweden trying to cuck me
>Had research help from Korea

>mfw

Just tried to prevent stealing tech using all of my spies. Put BOTH of them on counterspy in campus district. Same thing occurred:
>An enemy succeeded in stealing tech boost

Nice system Firaxis, you cocksucking assclowns.
You have limited the amount of spies to 2, regardless of how many cities civilization might have. And as if that wasn't retarded enough these 2 spies have to protect individual districts of cities. AND they still can't properly do that even if you use all your resources.
Civ6 is a fucking travesty, what a fucking pile of shit.

Kinda.
Closer to a RTS since the economy and research are very basic.

someone last thread said it was on sale

should i get it
have you played it

I tried Star Ruler and Star Ruler 2.
They're both very strange, innovative, but aren't exactly fun. And they both play very differently.

well shit

Star Ruler can be hilariously broken (since there's no limit on the unit scales, you can theorically build a ship the size of the galaxy), but the ships always need fuel, and the second they run out of fuel, they DIE. Your entire crew DIES, and your ship becomes a treasure chest.

In Star Ruler 2, the entire economy is focused on keeping a huge number of peasant worlds to feed off your most advanced planets, keep your balance stabilized, and once in a while, buy a +5%HP upgrade with your research points.

it has a surprisingly good rating for how dull you make it sound

It has its good points. It's trying to be innovative, to come up with new mechanisms, but while they make the game interesting to discover, they don't make it automatically fun, and there are some stuffs that aren't exactly properly.

Are there any other 4x space games besides Stellaris and Endless Space that allows for terraforming of planets?

Alpha Centauri, to some extent.

All of them?
Isn't terramorfing less or more limited a staple of space 4x?

No.

FUCKING ELVES

OH GOD, THEY'RE RIGHT THERE

The reason why Amplitude insists so much on cinematic combat and avoids depth like the plague is because they believe their niche is the mythical
>4X e-sports multiplayer audience
that no one has ever seen any evidence of its existence and thus no one has yet milked dry, or so the logic goes...

Everything is meant to enable, quick short matches. That's why you've got the doom counter of Eternal Winter in EL, that's why they are capping the turn limits of the beta (placeholder for the end-game crisis mechanic), that's why the combat never allows you direct control: no one is supposed to gain advantage by thinking about his moves and slowing everyone else down.

>if they're going after e-sports then why the fuck so much effort is put into lore and art?
Fuck if I know, makes no sense. They've made other contradictory design choices in the past like adding Steam Workshop support but then disabling achievement earning if you dare to play with a mod...

>tfw you bought deluxe ES2 believing they would deliver something at least as good as ES1 but all the signs point to the contrary now

Have fun not expanding.

Another dev bites the dust. At least Triumph Studios is working on something 4X.

Is this the star trek mod?

at least they didn't greet you like this

Nah, Paradox added rubber-forehead aliens with Heinlein as pr popular demand.

Fuck links.

Are Peter and Stefan Bolyneux related?

So in Stellaris has anyone ever played an "advanced start"?

Since primitives can get into space on their own you can set the galaxy to huge and set it so that there are no other spacefaring civilizations besides you and the fallen empires at game start, which gives you an advantage on the primitives as they reach spaceflight technology.

If you mean Molyneux (one of B&W/Fable fame, the other as the youtuber/podcaster), they aren't directly related as far as I know, just share a name and at some point in the past a common ancestor somewhere.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Molyneux

Sounds like it might be fun at first and then would get really boring with no one to fight/stare angrily at.

I am fond of memes

Kingly meme my boy

>e-sports
Try "multiplayer in general". Trying to play online in games that have strategic combat is absolute hell for all involved as it comes down to the entire game waiting for two people to finish fighting.

I appreciate that they have a hands-off approach to combat, my complaints about the combat system in ES2 isn't that it's automatic but that there's literally nothing else to it but selecting range. Even ES1 had targeting options and the battle cards.

>VI
>Pick Victoria and decide to be friends with everyone and win with religion
>In the lead with 191/200 to get Prophet
>Get cucked by 2 civs at the same time and miss the prophet
>Gandhi, Harald Cuckstorm, Catherine, Cleopatra, Chinese cunt, Pericles, Barbarossa, Phillip and Teddy
>Gandhi and Catherine denounce me for having different governments
>Cleopatra builds a city between London and Manchester just to spite me
>Teddy hates me for NO reason
>Phillip keeps making his missionaries walk in my territory without converting the cities
>Chinese cunt gets mad at me because i have more wonders
>I only have Great lighthouse
>Harald hates me because i have 3 ships
>Barbarossa is threatning me

You get to be the advanced AI that bullies the primitives

What difficulty level does CIV V have to be on for AIs to act like dicks? I just started playing it and on the low difficulty levels they never seem to fuck with me at all.

>Even ES1 had targeting options and the battle cards.
This. ES1 is practically a deep strategy compared to ES2 combat.

You make me want to reinstall Endless Space.

I haven't played it since... well, there was no fighters or bombers when I played it.

>well, there was no fighters or bombers when I played it.
They added even more to the combat mechanics with that expansion: fleet positions and targetting priorities.

Maybe it's finally enjoyable then. I remember loving missiles, but they were shit compared to lasers.

>get endless legend on sale on October 16th along with Dungeon of the Endless and Endless Space in a bundle deal
>just now open it to play it for the first time
>notice there is apparently content I don't own
>a new expansion was released on October 14th

GODDAMMIT

At least the expansions are skippable, unlike in the Paradox games when they completely change the gameplay.

King and Prince.

>the expansions are skippable
But they are good content.

>Go to recruit admiral in stellaris in the early game
>2 options with unyielding, pick the only other candidate
>He gets unyielding after his first engagement
Goddammit

Praise the Emprah and dread naught!

What I mean is that they don't change the entire gameplay, compared to Paradox's DLCs.

>praising some rotting corpse

From what I remember there's more stat fiddling but it's very basic in the end

also doesn't help that the AI is still dumb as fuck

I *almost* wanted to buy endless space 2, but then I see this disgusting web design.

But user, how can you waste space when it's endless?

oh u

I could make a better combat system half drunk and asleep

It would be fun, but retards and women wouldn't be able to understand it.

If you go for functional you can't be unique.

And I'd advise everyone not to buy ES2 till we see how it turns out.

Is that ES1?

Holy shit, I don't know what I did, but in Civ 6 the Barbarians would just not stop spawning. Every time I cleared a camp, two more would appear. What the fuck?

Barb rush

has to do with your difficulty level

Has Civ 6 been patched and balanced yet?

Is it worth buying yet?

>buying

Dammit, I've been trying to beat the AI on immortal for over a week now, and I could have done it if not for these fucking barbarians. God dammit.

These meddling barbarians and their damn dog.

>patched
supposedly yes
but those fucking hacks just read /r/civ and fanatics for bug reports
a day after the patch it was discovered great generals stack and the bug is still in the game despite similair bugs (balloon stacking) being removed in the patch.
>balanced
never, Firaxis can't be trusted to ever balance a game half decently if things like colosseum or mamluks exits

game is dogshit right now

>rush closest neighbor asap
>turtle up
>build many commercial & industrial districts
>affects cities within 6 tiles

winnnnnnnnn

why bother attacking anybody
you just can't loose to AI in this game if you follow the meta of prioritizing commerce hubs/harbors and induzones/campuses next

you just need to remember to build siege towers while you can so you can use them with helicopters later.

so u get more room to expand silly

I did the best by attacking and crushing four AI players before they could get their cheats in. By just going with Commercial hub spam into whatever, I just couldn't keep up with the AI's cheat bonuses.

>why bother attacking anybody
free workers

anything but free lol

Yeah they are.
With the units necessary to fight off barbs and defend from the AI you can capture free workers as Aztecs.

3 archers and the starting warrior is what i use to defend my empire up until i get factories and can mobilize for world conquest

its not often ive been able to cause harm of any kind to the neighboring cities with this army

>About to start building Petra
>Notice Saladin has already started and that his city is completely surrounded by desert
>Let Saladin finish Petra
>Let him convert one of my cities
>Wait until he has a really big apostolic army marching towards my borders
>Declare holy war and wipe all of them in two turns
>Conquer most of his cities and ask for his capital and the city with Petra in the peace deal
>Convert his cities with the faith I had accumulated over the years.
I didn't know religion could be this fun.

Hey, I've never seen this one before.

Yeah religion as an excuse to go to war is the best way to play religion.

Welp

Though Peter was annoyed that I converted one of his cities, he was the one trading with mine.

Shit, this is pretty heavy.

Whoever the two guys who suggested I get Endless Legend last thread.... Thank you. :D

they pulled Dead Space

I installed this mod thinking that having more ship types would be fun

but now i CANT build battleships , they are gone from the ship designer and spaceport options

is it broken or what , the mod says it changed the names of some BS components so I assume that deleting the battleships cant be intentional

Sounds more like they pulled Event Horizon.

stellaris.smods.ru/archives/2031

you still have to research the tech to build battleships, it comes after battlecruisers

But I installed the mod very late into the game
I pretty much only have repeatable techs at this point , do i need to unlock batlecruiser to unlock BS ? maybe the mod gets fucked if if loads into a saved game that isn't very new

yeah I think you need to start a new game

Goyims help me out

Endless Legend, Stellaris or Civ6 for multiplayer/coop with 1-2 friends?

Stellaris is actually pretty fun with multiplayer.

Stellaris becomes more like a weird RTS with 4x elements in multiplayer, it's pretty fun.

For something turn based? Civ 5

Ist the AI ok so that me and my buddies can ally and have fun, or should we only bother to go cuthroat 1v1v1 action?

The main problem with Stellaris is the AI is retarded so it's like playing the game with a bunch of monkeys. With other humans you can actually forge real alliances and cooperate with each other against major threats like awakened empires, or provide challenges for each other by duking it out over territory. The way war works in the game is extremely tedious when playing against the AI because you're forced to chip away at them for decades until they finally submit to you or are destroyed, but human players can be reasoned with.

how the fuck do I conquer and expand in stellaris without genociding all the aliums?

in stellaris you either have to go full inclusive sjw or full hitler/imperium of man

fanatic individualist plus whatever else you want

but if I don't take collectivist or xenophobe I can't genocide the aliums

Did you take the collectivist ethic? If not you have to enfranchise xenos and let them live in your empire or you won't be able to expand. If you did then feel free to purge and enslave all non-humans you come across.

Better start training that anus for fat alien dick then cause you're gonna have to pass some amendments to let them vote.

get logical purge ethics

lets you purge if you have militaristic, spiritual or materialistic ideologies

essentially allows purging of xenos, but not primary species as long as you aren't individualists

to be honest it doesn't make sense that purging/slavery can't be done in non-collectivist societies, seeing as slavery isn't just limited to collectivist ideology/societies IRL by any definition

Most people play it for comp stomps.

shit nigga i didn't even know this was possible
also didn't know they could be squished together like the 3 near the top are

Civ6.
