DM:N farming is a case of having easily soloable mid-level content that has overtuned rewards.

1.12 item statistics are overpowered as fuck compared to what was available at launch.
You wouldn't need to artifically buff MC and BWL if you actually bother to get the right stats at each patch and remove items from loot tables which were added much later in the game.

early cata was pretty good (even if they memed the old world), most of the hate comes from the DS/LFR patch that lasted forever

after you get past the pandas MoP had a great patch in ToT and seige was good but out too long (similar to icc)

wod was complete dogshit aside from the raid encounter design (although they still sucked because you have to play garrisoncraft to raid)

Early early cata before all the dungeon nerfs is seriously an underrated period in wow.

A lot of cata's hate does come from the later patches.
4.1 which was just two rehashed filler dungeons
4.2 created the worst fucking daily quest hub in the game, while firelands was small and filled with trash that nobody liked clearing
4.3 lasted forever and introduced LFR cancer

I think it's still fair to hate on cata as a whole but it was really good early on.
