/ddg/ - Dragon's Dogma General

Map Edition

Tips:
You can change vocations at level 10 at the Gran Soren inn or BBI.
Character appearance can be changed later on.
You don't need pawns, but they help.

I declare this thread mine.

What kind of mods are you guys running, if any?

Anyone else find Mystic Knight kind of dull? Maybe I should give it a run through BBI to really give it a shot, but it always seems like just buffing up and spamming GC is your best option.

Low-end ones mostly. Legendary Dark Arisen is my current haunt.

What's he saying during the cutscene where he eats your heart? I know it's latin but I don't know if anyone even attempted to translate it.

Isn't it the message he leaves behind in your chest cavity?

>and spamming GC
That's your problem. The most fun way to play MK is buffed melee+ripostes.

I dunno, that's why I wanna know

Is that really the whole map of the game?

>get piece of equipment early in game
>three star ranking requires some obscure and rare drop from a monster you won't encounter until almost twenty hours later
>by which time you can easily buy a new piece of equipment that outperforms that one and can be three-starred with common bullshit
What.

How much flexible is the game with jobchanging? I like all the jobs in general and I enjoy fooling around with them but I don't really think I can commit to an specific job or an specific build. Can you unlock and play all the jobs without severely gimping your character?

The general consensus is that min-maxing is not very important due to powerful endgame equipment. Just make sure you aren't neglecting stats that you want to make use of later.

>Can you unlock and play all the jobs without severely gimping your character?
Yes. Your stats likely won't be perfectly optimal, but the difference between perfectly optimal and completely shit is relatively minor, and even perfectly optimal builds still require you to switch a few times. The main game generally isn't too difficult regardless and BBI will give you gear that is vastly more important than your stats. You're intended to change vocations a fair bit and are even rewarded with augments that can be applied to any class. Biggest issue will likely be getting decent gear for your new class and upgrading it, but that's not a huge problem.

No, there's more
we just never got any of it

That sucks.

I've been loving this game so far, but to realise that I've already explored 50% of the world after 12 hours is a bit of a let down.

Still, minmaxing can be a fun challenge.
Pure 10-200 assassin is just silly in terms of pure attack power. 956 base STR with fighter start.

I can't put my finger on it but my Arisen looks like someone famous. I just can't figure out who.

Looks a bit like Clementine from West World.

If you made the eyes bigger anyway.

>all those missing areas.

Jesus, modders should really take a break from Skyrim and make a worthy mod for DD.

When you change vocations (to unlock augments/etc) and then change back, do you have to start over on your old vocation if you switch back?

I'm a Strider, and I like playing as Strider, but wouldn't mind some new augments. So if I switch to something else to get some new augments, then switch back to Strider, will my vocation level reset to 1? Will I have to re-learn all my skills?

Also, do skills also carry over between vocations, or just augments?

Maeve as Arisen and Clementine as main pawn would fit strangely well in those roles.

You keep all your progress. I believe skills will stay if both classes can use them, but obviously class-exclusive skills won't. There's no real penalty for switching other than potentially needing new gear and minor stat differences when you level. Augments even encourage it.

Without tools? Good luck.

I'm at the point when Madeline and caxton are asking for Idols. Which should get the gold one?

dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Gold_Idol

Check what stuff you want.

You could cheat and give them both a real gold idol.

Might as well just make something similar to DD then

which I really want to do if I ever get around to making my dream game

couple the world/exploration/combat of this game with the graphics of a late 90's 3D game sinceI adore that style of graphics

I really just gotta dive in and learn some programming one of these days.

Help, I can't stop ogling my arisen

Which skills does a fighter pawn need?

so how do I use skeleton keys?
no spoilers please I'm a newbie but I have one in my inventory and came across a cell door looking door and it says "you don't have a key to open this" when I press circle but I have a skeleton key in my inventory. there is no "use" option for the key. would the door open when I press open with a key in my inventory if it were a door openable with a skeleton key or am I missing something?

Doors you can open with a skeleton key will automatically do so upon interaction.

...

So if you bench your pawn do they not gain XP/DCP? I'm gonna try soloing this playthrough.

Aren't I just kind of playing a fighter with buffs I need to reapply every minute or two then?

pls help m8s.

he said most fun
riposte are GOAT

Is there a mod that makes you see the amount of damage of the hits?

Should I start my first playthrough on hard mode or is it just no fun allowed artificial difficulty?

Don't. You'll be oneshotted early on but because of double exp and lots more money drops you'll soon outlevel mobs and it'll turn to easy mode.
Normal is fine.

Bit of a bizzare question but I'm doing a sort of roleplaying run. Is there any outfit that incorporates Bells in any fashion?

...

Do I really need to loot everything?

This is getting pretty boring

I was kind of upset about how easy it is to make money, than the everfall merchant almost cleaned me out with 4 mil worth of gear.

Good thing i saved up...

Nope
just loot whatever material it is you need to upgrade your equipment

in the latin part he says grigori at one point tho

So I've been playing FFXV lately, and got reminded of Dragon's Dogma by a very neat mechanic.
Namely, one of the characters in this game will periodically just take photos from his perspective, and show them off at the end of the day.

I imagine it'd be interesting to see what our pawns might photograph on their journeys.

I've tried a few ENB, but they always fuck up the way dark scenes look. Is it like this with all of them?

the choice is yours, arisen...

Found this on Grigori's page of the wiki

is he gonna rape himself?

"interesting"
*takes blurry and overexposed photo of a rock on the ground*

Anyone know where I can find Daimon's voice lines?

Anglo does not teach Latin

well excyooooose me for trying to find if someone's already attempted it

what's this talk about an online seneschal?

Selfcest is the purest form of love.

So I have a pair of hellfire boots now. They don't fit ANYTHING I own but that wind resistance is too good to pass up.

It's incredible, dragons are a total cakewalk with this shit.

I would say in his .arc (em7000 and 7001) alongside his model.

>tfw you realize you can literally just walk five feet away from Death whenever he does anything
>tfw even your pawn starts juking his retarded ass for a bit
>tfw you do barely any damage to him but you still send that little bitch home crying

Dragon's maw mainly, make sure to take no shield skills because it makes your pawn perfect block more

>pawn returned with 3 stars and no gift
O-okay.

>Buy new weapon and max it
>Get a better weapon of the same class in a chest a few minutes later

Remember:

Style>Stats

When you beat the game online your arisen and pawn are uploaded and anyone beating the game in newgame+ while online will fight someone else's arisen and pawn. If you beat newgame+ offline you fight your previous self.

So I remember you can get lewd clothing from the female bandit camp, but don't remember how exactly. Is it from the quest by the other bandit dude?

From one of the chests in the fort.

Cool, thanks.

for armor, yea, but for weapons you want the higher stats

oh that's pretty rad

Back when I played this on console I specifically remember when buying and withdrawing stacks of items that holding the direction for a while would start making the number move at super speed but now on pc it never seems to go any faster. Is there any way to fix this or was it removed for some reason? I figure on pc it would let me just type in a number but that doesn't work either.

>Style>Stats
Wait what?
Why?
Aren't stats important ESPECIALLY for armor?

Once you've got great weapons and skills and you're high enough level to get semi-decent nice looking armour, it's better to just go with that to look cool since no matter what you're wearing everything is easy anyway.

Nah.

Style always beats stats.

DD is only hard if you want to solo as a mage or warrior.

>holy focused bolts
>hard
People only say mage is bad because sorcerer is better in every way. It's still leagues ahead of fighter and warrior in terms of ease.

Starting the game for the first time.
Wanted to play MK but because they look retarded, attacking using one hand with the off-hand free while they carry their fuckhuge shields on their backs and teleport them while blocking seriously what the fuck, i decided to play fighter instead with a strider pawn.

My question is, how fucked will i be if don't plan to summon other pawns?
Are there any fully physical immune enemies that i can't deal with by using items or inherently enchanted weapons?

Most ghost types will be slow but doable, but good luck with wraiths. You can always run past though.

Wait seriously?

That's actually really cool, i never knew about this.
Shame the best difference in NG+ is literally the last minute of the game.

I mean, beside Dragon's maw. About the shield skills, isn't Sheltered Spike good?

Mage is ok at buffing and healing.
But that's boring without serious co-op.

Otherwise Sorcerer is better in every way, as you said.

> and no gift

Well, I haven't gifted becuase I have no idea what I should gift, what's considered a decent/interesting gift?

Not if you dont get hit.

Vocation?

Pretty sure that's Assassin

abysmal anguish is one of the best skills
Use burst strike or a core skill with it to watch Cursed Dragons drop.

Stone forest when upgraded to tier 3 is like a mini wide-range arc of obliteration

Still set-up

Shield:
Riposte of choice(dark is great and causes Topor)
Enchant of choice(holy is best all-around)
Abysmal Anguish

Sword:
Full Moon slash
Burst Strike
Stone forest or Great Cannon

This is one of the best set-ups for damage or fun. The last sword skill can also be ruinous sigil. It doesn't have any air offense but devours Gore Cyclopes and their armour in BBI

If you roll with a strider or ranger pawn you'll never be out matched. Abysmal Anguish also increases the hit-box for your slashes so you'll never need to climb a dragon again. Full Moon Slash to the heart and watch it reel.

it's fine but your pawn perfect blocking almost every attack is better

No bells. There is a good range of stuff though.
dragonsdogma.wikia.com/wiki/Category:Complete_Armor_Sets

I'm about to play DD for the first time.
I want to make a warrior.
Now, the question is, what do I do about my pawn? I don't like healing with items, because it takes too much time and effort to prepare them and use them during fights.
So, should I make my pawn a healer or rather something else (what would be a good one for a warrior?) and use a pawn from the Rift for healing?

Healer is fine; Mage pawn. You'll need magick for ghosts and certain enemies that take little to no physical damage.

You can also give your pawn healing items and the Magnanimous Cloak and they'll heal the entire party each time they heal. Works with every vocation.

Warrior is tough for a first run, learn to exodus slash like a pro.

Whats that ENB? anytime I try one theres grain everywhere and the depth of field doesnt focus on my Arisen.

that shit is way too bright

Ok, thanks.

I don't mind it being tough, as long as it's fun.

If I take my pawn's daggers, will she only use her bow? Or will she try to climb and punch things?

Also, do I use sapfire dagger or framae blades with magick archer?

This game is confusing as fuck

I don't get the whole pawn thing, do I have to change them every level up?
About the items I find around, how do I avoid the clutter and always being overburdened, I swear to god I'm passing more time in my inventory trading thigns between characters than playing the fucking game
Is there a respec sort of thing for my main pawn?

Yes.
You will always have to deal with encumbrance unless you play as a 7ft tall giant.
No.

Try to answer as good as I can!
>I don't get the whole pawn thing, do I have to change them every level up?
Not your main pawn. It levels with you.
If you rent a pawn, they will stay at their level, even if the person leveled it up. You need to send it away first and basically rent it anew from the rift.

>About the items I find around, how do I avoid the clutter and always being overburdened, I swear to god I'm passing more time in my inventory trading thigns between characters than playing the fucking game
Prepare yourself Arisen!
No Joke. Inventory managment is key!
Put all the materials i the bank. If you scavange around, you can be overburden, but if you are questing and need to fight against monster this is a really really bad idea!

>Is there a respec sort of thing for my main pawn?
Yeah kinda.
You can change it's voacation/hob in an inn at any time. Also don't worry too much about their skills. Take a look at them and choose what you think is okay. Sooner or later you will be able to buy them all anyways.

Also, once you change their vocation/job you can only use the skills made for this vocation. Healing while being a Strider will not work

1. Your pawn levels with you. Rift pawns or others do not level with you. They work pretty good within 10 levels (replace at 10, 20, 30, etc)

2. You can drop items off at any inn and most camp sites. If a pawn leaves they send all items to your storage they find. If you gift a pawn armour that is not your own, they'll keep it. However if they pick up a piece of gear and you don't equip it on them you'll get it in your storage when they leave.

3. You can't respec stats but you can change vocations/class at Gran Soren after escorting the Hydra's head.

The wikia is well done. Very loyal fanbase

Is there any mod that lets me remove the vocation requirement for a piece of equipment? Would like to use the Divine Surcoat on my Mage.

>Is there any mod
no

i think hookmod allows you to do that
