Why the fuck would you intentionally design your guns so that they have to fire from your largest and most vurnerable angle.

Sailing ships only did it because of space and design limitations.

You'd need a bigger ship attached to it to even power such a thing. At which point you're just some capship's gun.

Was thinking of the 130 dollar for the Thrustmaster t.1600m Hotas on newegg.

If it was up to the Star Citizen community every ship would have zero fucking cargo space, ten layers of shields, be covered in guns and have a bubble cockpit 30 yards away from the actual ship for maximum visibility.

How do you explain to your housemates when you get your big "thrustmaster" package in the mail though? I only play high skill: deadly at the moment, but was thinking about maybe shekeling up for SC recently.

Well if the structural damage model of Star Citizen is as good as they hope it'll be, getting a merlin through a space too small shouldn't explode the ship but instead just take off a wing.

So this master plan will require a repair ship or really fucking good pilots capable of flying at handicap.

If you go Hotas, make sure your throttle has an analog stick on it. I think dual stick or hojam would be better.

Left hand joystick, right hand mouse.

You can either set it up so that the joystick replaces keyboard directly and have analog strafe thrusters, with roll on the twist, allowing more fine grained maneuvering, or leave the left stick as yaw pitch roll, using a slider for main thruster and hat for strafing. This lets you fly the ship totally decoupled from your gimbal/turret gun aim.

I like that asymmetry.

The only thing I want in SC is scale portrayed properly. Stars in ED are lackluster because of our perspective and how we view the scale of objects, that and the distance you're allowed to be to them

You get a better sense of scale in ED with VR but even then it's subtle with something as large as a star.

The one change they could make to huge stars, without letting you get unsurvivably close to them, would be to model them more accurately. Our current understanding is that giant stars have very uneven surfaces due to factors like the distance of the outer layers from center of mass. They are not smooth spheres like our sun. Direct imaging of Betelgeuse in particular by Hubble revealed that it has a doughy appearance.

If you were to jump to such a thing the surface features would make its size pretty clear even though you're 6000ls out.

has anyone actually taken this thing into crusader with a full crew and proved it's too weak? maybe it's just weak in that full crew are required for anything close to full effectiveness. might be a good way to balance the capital cracker.

I just saw the flight model changes and boost/afterburn refactor. What does /scg/ think?

When I heard that they were going to slow shit down again I instinctively thought they were going to fuck it up worse than it was, but after showing some of the stuff off I think I really like it. It changes the dynamics of maneuverability dramatically.

Afterburn ignites your main engines so you can make it to cruse speeds and only affects your main engines. This finally gives them a more solid purpose thanks to how powerful most maneuvering thrusters were. It feels better than the arbitrary SCM/Cruise toggle and puts cruise speeds under an energy/fuel limitation if you do it too often. Racing will now actually be interesting. It opens the door for speedy ship niches where building a ship around using afterburn often may be advantageous in some situations where a more weapon or armor oriented ship would struggle.

Boosting only increasing maneuvering thruster output also ties into all of the Afterburn stuff and adds another layer of maneuvering depth to the game.

I admit I was a bit worried it'd just turn me into an easy(ier) target, but after seeing the atv footage it may not be too bad.

One man in a gladiator can deliver 8 S5 torpedoes.
Seven men in a Tally can deliver 6 s9 torpedoes.

For its size it does not comparatively offer much of an increase in punching power, while being a much larger much slower target than its alternatives. It's use of internal space is abysmal, literally more than 50% of the internals are functionless corridors.

Thats not even the primary issue though, the primary issue is the combination of realtively weak turrets compared to what they are supposed to defend against and abysmal turret placement preventing more than a a couple of the turrets from reliably focusing fire on a given target, Its a fairly small ship with 5 turret gunners, but the turret are place so poorly that most of them cannot focus fire at all, most of them have extremely limited fire arcs and perhaps worst of all its least defended arc is directly behind, the area it is most likely to be attacked from.

I do not expect CIG to rework the base hull, at all frankly, but I don't want to just accept that its going to be second rate in terms of efficient use of the hull, so I'm fishing for ideas. Also I want to keep beating the drum of it being a sub par ship right now in hopes that it staying on radar of both players and devs keeps it in mind as a ship that needs some love. It ios one of SCs most iconic ships and it should be a viable choice for both its intended bombing role and also its advertised civilian refit role.

Also this for fucks sake. the cramped spaces and glitchy everything mean you bug through the model literally every time you fly it and every tally play session ends with me being ejected into space and having to suicide.

The Tally turrets loadout is actually quite good. You can have between 2 and 3 turrets facing any direction at any time, including the rear just by modifying a little the firearc.
All their weapons are on par with what the fighters hardpoint are being rebalanced to be, at worst you make the front turret gain a size so they double as (pilot-linked) front firing guns to match Connie (assuming you don't blow up connie with torpedo already)

There is no need to cry because it's not an dedicated anti-fighter gunship. It will be fast and stealthy and they'll probably be forced to redesign it anyway because they now have a definite size of missiles and the Talli can only carry so much.

But I agree entirely with the rest of the criticism, the space wasted, the pointless corridors, the lack of internal bay for small missile and I'll add "too many landing gear".

In my Aurora, I flew near some pirates at a comms relay, and they blew apart my engines before I could even land a shot. Auroras are space Reliant Robins.

i couldnt get 2.6 to work properly but i was able to try out the survival mode with a mustang alpha
i did pretty well but the shitty guns it has made anything take forever to kill. wasnt damaged too badly after a few waves
you just gotta learn to handle the boost button a little so you can avoid absorbing all the damage
by the 4th round my right engine was scratched up but still did alright
