I just don't want to think about doing temporary fixes that are easy to spot or ever repainting the damn thing they sure are good beaters though

To make the thing rustproof you'd have to put in a fuckoad of effort

You'd have to;
>completely remove all old paint, primer
>completely repaint with good materials
>cut rubber "gaskets" to prevent vibration for stuff like the trim pieces on the doors, wheel flares, door handles and where the bumpers touch the body
>treat the wheel wells and underside with external rust proofing

It ain't worth it, sadly

Driving feel and MPG wise...

C200 is a bit more responsive, and you notice the extra hp when you get in speeds of about 70kph and higher

MPG - no clue. The C200 that belongs to my mate is beaten to shit and does a good 21mpg on the long drives. Never owned or driven a C180 over a longer period so cant tell.

Note about the power; these cars are getting old, and there is a good chance that a lower-mileage/better cared for C180 will have retained more power than a beaten/higher mileage C200

such a shame that they were actually a step down quality and engineering wise compared to the w201.
it's like the whole engineering effort and money went completely into finding cheaper ways to produce shit, making it conform to crash tests and streamlining world market orientation instead of making a better car than the w201.

Remember that these cars came around when the computerization of cars really begun. Electronic injection, sensors, ECU, OBD II and so on all came in around this time. New technology = more stuff to go wrong, simple as that

As for the build quality there were indeed some major issues that fucked them over good
