I'm not arguing performance. I know what an EK is not capable of, and I know what the new Type R is capable of.
I just feel that the EK captures the spirit of the Civic nameplate better than whatever this new one is. The EK is clearly a built-up version of a standard, harmless hatchback commuter. There's a certain charm in that. They took a bland car and improved it to make it interesting.
There is no charm in taking a car that was designed to perform and making lesser versions of it, which is what the new Civic is all about. It's as if they started with their Type R and just downgraded it until they got the current standard Civic. All the looks and aggression with none of the oomph to back it up.
