Papyrus is the only other good part. He takes Toriel's role and was pretty fun and enjoyable.

Who else loved the scene where Alphys was walking down the aisle, Mettaton playing a wedding march MIDI, just a small service at a small little church, when suddenly Sans stood up from his seat and ran up to her and smashed her to the ground and with full force started pounding her right in the soul, and at the hospital the baby was declared dead, and then the judge declared that this was just one of Sans's infamous pranks (a victory for the legal system) and therefore Undyne and Alphys had to pay the legal fees and several fines for defamation that they couldn't afford to pay

As an(admittedly played out) compromise, you could go the route of Frisk clonking their head on the fall down to the underground and losing their memory of who they are, and since Flowey calls the player Chara, they believe that is their name, eventually remembering enough to realize that it isn't and choosing to try and keep up with the lie.

I liked that Mettaton had absorbed Kindness (hence the green soul's absence), and that Napstablook is still what he is- a side character, which is why he's filled with apathy as Flowey.
Can't quite get my head around why the ghost cousins are living in the royal palace when they're unrelated or whatever to the skeletons, shining stars or not.

I previously only changed Undyne, Sans, and Toriel but someone said I should make something more explicit for Alphys and this edit for Papyrus was almost too obvious. You're free to play around with it or make other suggestions.

I hope you'll like it! There's a particular episode of The Twilight Zone, that was a big inspiration, along with that idea. I haven't written anything really dark in a while, so it'll be a nice change of pace over comfyfics.

Frisk has limited access to Chara's memories. Even without that, those 2 didn't know them well enough to know about their hatred of humanity, which they didn't try to hide. I don't think they would be surprised to see Chara change after death.

I think Chara could have been done better- they're a non-character in-game, so you have all these possibilities, and the author makes them into Sans 2.0

I mean, they're in his role, but c'mon, I wanted something different. Asriel feels generic, and not unique like Papyrus in that role did.

I lost interest when Chara didn't attack Frisk on sight or at any point after that. That's not Chara at all. They shouldn't stop doing so until they are 100% sure that Frisk isn't like other humans.
He is flawless. Asgore's flaws are part of his appeal.

That would have been actually fairly good- as soon as Chara approaches, you get into a battle where either you mercy them until they start to trust you, or Asriel interrupts, which fucks up the rest of the run. Or something.

That, and reducing their Sans-ness, then it'd have been good.

They could have gone further with Papyrus too- if he gets you to 1HP, then he calls off the fight, saying you're not quite ready yet, or something.

It just seems too trite and nicely packaged to me. I understand characters making the best of a bad situation, and blatant torture porn isn't what I'm after either, but the cut and dry fairy tale happy ending just doesn't do it for me, it detracts too much from anything that makes it real.

You could also implement the 2nd most prominent part of their personality - determination. Have them appear out of nowhere several times to make it clear that they aren't gonna let human scum running around the underground. You can kill them, but they will come back unless you kill them enough times, dealing too much damage for them to move, or they are pacified. That way, they are even closer to real Chara and it makes them different from Sans. And it adds tension that isn't present in Storyshift.

They would do it regardless of your actions. It's not really a test though. More like they just can't accept that a human can be good. Even if Asriel pacifies them, they would still remain distrustful of Frisk. This hatred would be gone only after the barrier is shattered.

I'd be lying if I said that's not part of why I want to attempt like this. I think comedy and fluff are still where I'm most in my element, but I really do want to try a couple new things.

An unwinnable situation, the threat of losing your identity, a constant and unshakable threat, a struggle inside and outside, and all of this with a little bit of hope dangling at the edge of the horizon. These are all things I've been meaning to play around with, just never found a suitable vehicle for it, until now at least.

Just don't kill anyone. If you do, Asriel won't be able to help you. And if you kill other main characters except for Asriel, Asgore or Toriel, they kill one of them in blind rage (and whoever gets in the way) and use their soul just to find and kill you, no matter where you are on the surface or how long it would take to find you.
