Hope you know someone who works on jags. Lmao

You're gonna learn today, son

>buying an unreliable fedora meme car from a used car stealership

Well, at least you can't do much worse.

>142k miles
>jaguar
oh dog

>unreliable
Post 2000 AJ engines aren't so bad, desu.

If the Dealer service history is real and comprehensive you shouldn't have too much to worry about other than eletrical gremlins and loose trim problems that all old lux cars have.

I like it

:^)

Are there any obvious checks I should perform? Other than the obvious stuff you'd check while going to buy a used car.

I gather if a pre-2000 year car has had it's engine replaced there will be a green stamp under the engine cover saying so, and that clunking while going from neutral to first is a bad sign.

get a 2002-2003 one, they are great

1999 has too many bugs and engineering issues

If you DIY they are pretty easy to work on and a lot of the parts are Ford/Lincoln parts

If you don't DIY your wallet is going to be empty

Going out of your way to make a statement about gaming on a Mongolian basket weaving image board?

i would totally run OVG plates on my shitbox

Went and had a look, wasn't expecting much for £3500 but it was a total bag of shit. Didn't buy but the garage owner was a nice guy :^)

>>nuggers pls

PROCEED WITH CAUTION

Seriously, look at the mot history on mot-history.net by sticking the plate in. It has advisories for rust, and these are bad for rust. If they can give an advisory just by looking at it think of what is under the sill covers.

These generally aren't too bad for reliability, and parts are cheap here so they aren't that expensive to maintain. Rust is the biggest issue - inspect it VERY carefully if you are really wanting it.

The body wasn't rusted at all but underneath it looked more like an old pier than a car. It also had (((full jaguar service history))) but considering it had an aftermarket radio, Nexen tyres, staples in the headliner and completely totalled paint, I somewhat doubt the previous owner maintained it at a jaguar specialist. I had a look over the documents and there were only stamps in the service book with no documents to go with them.

Yeah it is underneath I am meaning, they can look really nice from the outside but as soon as you go under them it all goes to shit. Assume you didn't buy it then?

Shame so many nice cars in this country are now at a price level where pretty much anyone can buy one and thrash fuck out of them (E46 M3 I am looking at you) and all you get on the used market is sheds. Good spot with the lack of invoices to go along with the stamp, a lot of people would miss that.

What are you after now?

That's either Soarer or two LS400s money.

Naturally I didn't buy, really didn't even expect to buy as obviously a £3500 XJR at a garage is going to be a wreck, seems pretty clear private is the way to go. Mainly just went to look at it for something to do as it's rare to see XJR's up north. Becoming pretty obvious if I want one I'm going to need to travel for it.

Still want an X308 XJR, despite how dumb a purchase it is. I didn't drive it because that would just be wasting the guys time, but when he started it up I couldn't believe how quiet it was for a Supercharged 4.0 V8, sounded more like a 1.4 Golf. Love the looks and even though the interior on the one I looked at was trashed, I could see it being a very nice place to spend your time if it were in good condition.

I dunno if the guy was trying to pull a scam with fake stamped books, maybe he just didn't give them to me or were lost, but it seems odd to have stamps right the way up to 140,000 on a car worth so little.

LS isn't even in the same league as an XJ unless your main desire is to have a soulless piece of gook trash that will bore you to death.

>Muh soul and pashuun determined by how many times a week my car will leave me stranded

Can still enjoy looking at an XJ stuck at the side of the road whereas an LS will never bring enjoyment.

Good for you OP. Unless you're going to do a small block swap or something those cars are a nightmare.
