I like both but I prefer Fata. The latter is more tightly woven and you dont' have to go through 20 hours of awful content before you get to the good stuff.

I think the moege is an essential part of the impact MLA has on you, it's pretty bad but I don't think MLA would have been the same without it.

I don't disagree. It's supposed to contrast with Alternative and make you appreciate the simpler times, but it doesn't change the fact that it's quite boring and it lasts too long for what it is. I mean, you can do that kind of moege style well, and Extra certainly didn't, in my opinion. I appreciate it a bit more in retrospect, but that's all.

Okay, so. The sad reality of Dies is that most of the discourse surrounding it is mostly revolved around how difficult it is to read and how hard it'd be to translate. Nobody really knows what its actually about.
To be honest, those who are just expecting Fate or something will probably be disappointed. The games plot is basically outright parody of chuu2 battle royal stories. It's fights and embracing of chuu2 tropes are mostly used as a way to discuss how we approach the rather warped method of storytelling, and how we interact with fiction as a whole. It embraces every cliche that one would expect out of a battle royal in order to make a statement about them, for better or worse, and why they are both silly and boring, and why they can be great.
People who are familiar with the philosophy of Nietzsche and Goethe Faust will probably get the most out of Dies, though, as the story's biggest themes emanate from those 2 sources. It's a story in large part about the human dream of being more than what they are, and the life we leave behind in pursuit of it. Mentioning any more would be a spoiler, though, and this is mostly just my interpretation of it, so take it as you will.
In large part, while I do think the ultimate setting and characters of the story are both pretty cool (and fantastic for the latter), it's not something to go in for looking just for chuu2 explosions. How the plot is presented and told is honestly more intriguing than the plot itself. It's much more "literary" in nature than what most people are expecting.
Either way, I hope people like it. It's definitely one of my favorites, for sure. I haven't done the AmaAme extra stuff yet, so this might be a good time to!
