Good if you don't live in a no fault state or you want to make a couple bucks selling grisly car crash footage to the local news

Topkek! I see you have fallen for the merchants tricks! They are a shifty people that make their living on gullable goyms. I would not use it, as you will only be datamining on their behalf.

This guy gets it

It's goyim fuck face, and the singular is goy. Why don't you settle down there Mr. Redpilled.

How do you Edit posts on this board? I want to correct it without creating a new post and loose the upvotes.

Thanks in advance

By realizing this board moves too slow for you to be a faggot effectively. Go shitpost on Veeky Forums or /pol/

Report that you have one to your insurance and it should knock some money off your monthly payment

>see all sorts of shit happen all the time that would be upload worthy
>get a high end dash cam 8 months ago
>nothing worthy has happened since

I just hope one day it will save my ass in an an accident and proves I'm not at fault. Getting a vid on DashCamOwnersAustralia's youtube compilation would be a bonus.

Just yesterday some chink lady almost ran me into a concrete divided going around a turn for the entrance into a jam packed highway

My dash cam has seen a lot, but I haven't had to use it for an accident, hopefully never will, but it will pay for itself with just one accident.

I have the DOD-Tech LS460W.

A device that could literally save you tens of thousands of dollars in insurance payments if you don't have insurance) is something you should never skimp on, I see so many people waste money on shitty

Yep, it's such a great thing to have for peace of mind.

I'm thinking of getting one for the back as well, and perhaps two more for the side windows somehow, but it'll take some crafty DIY to hide them well.

I leave the LED on mine on also, so that people see it's there when they're driving around me

Look up what the Koreans use, they seem to have a decent 5 cam setup that covers every angle on a sedan.

What cam did you get?

Do you live in russia or some other third world shit hole?

Then enjoy your wasted $300. Maybe you'll get a couple months of novelty enjoyment out of it.

I live in the US so yeah

I've had one for a year, decided to get one cause I used to commute 75 miles per day to and from work. Crazy shit happened all the time, but mostly it was asshole drivers who hugged the passing lane, and wouldnt move over. They sometime would swerve, or try to throw shit at me, or brake check me when I flashed my high beams at em asking to pass. cunts.

anyway, I captured one crash. C6 rear ended a car, traffic slowed down, and he didnt have time to brake.

Another was just asshole doing asshole things.

One time there was this fucking tow truck that was coming behind me at least 40mph faster than me, I thought I was about to get rear ended, fucker swerved around on the right, and passed me, and merged in front of me with in a few feet. I felt my whole car shake from the cunts.

Thankfully I got a full clear picture of his work truck, and reported his ass to the company. spoke to the boss who kept apologizing, and offered me a free tow if I ever needed one.

I got mine for $79, does 1440p and is very discrete behind the rearview.

Link to the model?

I have one
a few years ago someone ran a red on me and wrote off both cars, I was lucky enough that a witness came forward and the other guy was 100% at fault.
the camera is just a good witness and could save you a mint down the road.

same thing, nothing happens now that I have the camera.

>STI
You fucboi

That pic is from the website

I live in brampton. It might as well be india here. this is insurance fraud capital in Canada.

My mom got a no fault accident making a left turn thanks to a witness (red light on other car), otherwise we'd be fucked since no dash cam.

I got fucked on my motorcycle for not having a camera running. Fucking Chink pulls into my lane and slams the brakes, No witnesses so it looked like it went into the back of her. Nearly had another fucking Asian pull right into me on the highway, had to slam the brakes and swerve into another lane. I'm getting a dash cam this weekend. Too many of these chinks bought their licenses here. Anyone got a good cam to recommend?

>spent 300$ on a dash cam

why are you even alive, op

>I got fucked on my motorcycle for not having a camera running.

This was the motorcycle cam one of the Veeky Forums group Washington Meet members used. It's the kind that attaches on the helmet and not just to the front of the bike.

These 2 links are useful because they link to other places that review dashcams and some of those review forums should have a section for motorcycle mounted type dashcams or helmetcams.

The WA Meet people all used helmet cams. Of course, you can simply get extra mounts and put them on the bike too. But when documenting the WA Meet, a helmet cam is obviously more versatile as to where it is recording.

Picture shows a different type of "CAM"

Tempted to get one just to record all these shitty NJ drivers here in FL.

Fuck you thats just cuz they're 60+ snowbirds, NJ drivers OP.

I use my old Galaxy S2 with a windshield mount as a dash cam

that interior is so painfully 80's

Just bought a pair of cams at Costco. They're nice, have had them about six months.

Every once in a while I'll upload the footage to my pc and clear the memory.

I have to keep footage because I have a kid with a crazy women who makes up lies about our exchanges. But on the upside I have a camera that's good for proof to my insurance and to the police of she pulls some crazy.

That helmet cam had pretty good detail and didn't shake all over the place. So it must have had some stabilization built in. I wish their Washington Meet thread was still alive so I could ask them what type of cam they used on their helmets.

For the rest of us, the cams are an option that isn't used. But they are a constant reputation and bank account / extortion / blackmail saver in your case. It sucks you have to actually use them. Good luck man.

I don't know what brand they are, but there's a dash cam, interior cam, rear cam and two side cams on them.

>Buying things before even researching about them

Quality ideas you got there, OP.

I bought a Mini 805 dashcam.
I don't use it anymore.
it works, but the battery is toast, and it doesn't always turn on.
you definitely should get a dashcam-they're cheap and will save your ass should you get in an accident

>Buying things before even researching about them
At car audio shops, they have various dashcams demonstrated. My local shop even has dashcams they refuse to sell but are bought from places like Frys and Best Buy just to show a comparison as to how their cams are better than those mass market low-end chinese versions.

The car audio shop sells the better quality ones. And they are quick to show that some of those cheap mass market 720 are apparently 480 upscaled to 720. And the optics of the cheap ones are simple plastic lens without any coatings.

>but the battery is toast
Walmart.com sells lots of Lithium Ion batteries for various dashcams. Check there. Just be careful because some of those batteries advertised made by samsung may actually be made in china (counterfeits). It's hard for walmart or amazon to avoid the counterfeit battery problem.

Somehow I feel like this will do more harm than good. Insurers are a cutthroat bunch

>Report that you have one to your insurance and it should knock some money off your monthly payment

Insurers generally only allow OEM factory gear for safety equipment for insurance discounts.

dbt bro

Anyone else got some storm porn on their dashcam? Don't hold out cunts.

Hour later after that the whole states power grid died and and we had to rely on lightning strikes for illumination.

>that's what australia looks like
fugggg

Not at all, I just live above the shitty Goyder Line in South Aus where it's just desert, much like you probably don't live in a town where Merkel has doubled your population with Syrian refugees. Where's your storm vids mate?

>Insurers are a cutthroat bunch
Still a wide variance in them. Some are more community-minded than others. Some drop you fast while others do not. As to "drop" that is a figurative term since insurance laws don't let them instantly drop you, so the more vicious companies like Geico use evaluation tricks to eventually shove you into a category where you will want to move to some different insurance provider if they now think you might make another future claim.

>Putting one on a shitbox
My car is only worth $1000
I don't have insurance on my side because I have to cover the first $1000 of any repairs anyway.

Will I need to prove that I'm not at fault in an accident or anything?

Regardless of coverage, having insurance typically means you have some sort of lawyers who have some experience with car cases. With no insurance, you either represent yourself or have to hire a lawyer. If you hire a lawyer, you can imagine deducting the cost of the lawyer from your would-have-been insurance costs to see the price difference. Was the price difference worth it?

USA freeways are designed with straight stretches in case planes needed to land on them. It's why the few that still have telephone poles near them have the poles so far away from the road. That keeps the wings from touching them.

No they aren't.

Why don't we have equivalents of this anymore ...

>not being able to land planes on curved roads
are you pilots even trying or can they only into auto pilot?

>USA freeways are designed with straight stretches in case planes needed to land on them.

It was only proposed long ago during President Eisenhower's administration, but never made it into law. But it continued to be popular folklore since planes continue to very occasionally land on usa freeways during emergencies. However, some countries do have laws requiring their public highways be usable as landing strips. Those are described in the wikipedia article:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Highway_strip

>Just bought a pair of cams at Costco. They're nice, have had them about six months.

Not a member of Costco, but keep thinking that one day it might be good to shop there for things like what you got. It's just that I'm by myself, so I don't need to buy 10 pounds of something at a time.

share a membership with a relative or somethuing

>Redpill me on dashcams Veeky Forumstists, are they a meme

Dashcams make it less likely for brake checks to win against you. Someone that backs into you can no longer claim you drove into them and force you to repair their already damaged bumper for free. Etc.

like you are going to argue with the pilot landing on your head

this

off topic but do your windshields not squeak? If so how? mine always skid to hell and leave marks on the windows. Always feel like they're about to snap in half

windshield wipers* damn it

I want a dash cam. How do you guys wire it? Friend of mine plugs his into the cigarette lighter, but he also needs a port to charge his phone. So he ended up getting a splitter for it and it just looks like a fucking mess. Any solutions?

I have one with the wire running straight down from behind the mirror to the cigarette lighter using sticky pads to secure it. You could also get a 5m usb lead and run it along the top and side of the windscreen, then underneath of your glove box with the same sticky pads.

Just get a cigarette adapter with two usb ports if you want to run something else with it.

clean 'em. crud gets built up and makes them skip. remove crud, remove skip.

thanks senpai. will try

>clean 'em. crud gets built up and makes them skip. remove crud, remove skip.

Over time, mineral deposits (pretty much transparent) build up a film on the windshield that's basically hardened on. Cleaners like windex don't really remove it since it's not acidic. Using my microfiber didn't remove it since the MF is just too soft and gentle. You can't caresss off mineral deposits. When I used the rough and tough cheap grindy terrycloth car cleaning towels that had most of the fur pilled up into those hard little balls, that cleaned off the hardened mineral deposits. In the next rain, I could tell since the slight streaking had stopped on the side I used the rough terry.

wire it to your fuse box sing a 12v to 5v converter

There are flush fitting adapters that have two slots. I use the ADREAMA one bought for $4.99 sale price (normally $9.99) at frys retail store. It's one of the smart ones that regulates up to 3.1A so it works stable enough as a tablet supply too.

I have a cam because I drive all the time for work (delivery driver) and I don't want some fuck to hit me and claim I was at fault, making my insurance rates go up / taking money out of my pocket. you can get a cheap one for like $50. look up "G1W dashcam" on amazon, they're cheap and completely adequate. I spent a little bit more and got something from a different manufacturer that records both front and back though.

Do you think the wireless backup cams are any good?

People boldly lie in accidents all the time because they know if they oppose the other person, it results in a "tie". Thus they avoid being convicted of causing the accident by boldly lying. Unfortunately, that means the victim is penalized THREE TIMES. Not only did the damage occur to damage the car (one blow), but the victim now has to pay for the damage (2nd blow). The 3rd blow is that the perpetrator gets away with the crime and the victim has to live on with the knowledge of that causing a scar upon his/her heart and ethics. This is bad if it eventually causes the victim to also succumb to the Dark Side and start to tell lies in the future as well. That 3rd blow is thus quite significant because it affects society in the long run. It's why we have crumbling of inner cities as people give up trying to be ethical.

>So he ended up getting a splitter for it and it just looks like a fucking mess. Any solutions?
Lots of people tuck the power wire in the trim to hide it.

They scare the fuck out of me because vehicles fitted with them might be driven by the kind of people that file police reports when you "speed" (limit+5mph) to pass them.

>tattletales on the road

N-no way

Not for speeding. They are useful for reporting cheaters in the HOV lane. Too many single-occupant cars drive in the HOV lane all the time. Cam them and report to the hotline. If multiple different sources report that driver is violating, they will get a mailed letter saying they should stop doing what they are doing.

Have yet to see a IOT dashcam you dip. The thing deletes old footage to record new and has no network connection.
What the fuck? Wouldn't that spacer cause the thing to wobble like a mofo?

they're for display, not driving

I love soviet helicopters and seeing one up close is cool, but is it really necessary for the pilot to be flying this close to the road?

>What the fuck? Wouldn't that spacer cause the thing to wobble like a mofo?

That's the purpose. When you show up for a car Meet, you swap those in. When done showing off, you take them out. People are always trying to find unique and amusing ways to express themselves and their cars at Meets and that makes it fun to look for and attend them.

>tattletales on the road
My state's DOT website has a page for you to tattle. But mostly for things like bad license plates you've seen, deliberately obscured plates, people using illegal mods, etc.

Yeah, brake checks are illegal in my state. It specifically says so at my state's DOT website on various laws. But without a dash cam, you can't prove to the judge that the car you hit brake checked you in order to force a collision.
