Well I honestly don't know what the best weapon is in the game.
The golden dagger seems good from the desert dungeon, you can get the sword I used from killing the barb in the forest I know magic is pretty strong if you can figure out where to find it.

No idea where to get magic stuff, except for some staff that lets you use light dart(?) from the castle early on. The wiki says the gold dagger is the best weapon if you use agility, and the weapon from the barbarian is the best if you use strength.
I just never killed him because I enjoy the sex scene. He's one of the few male NPCs that I have found that will get forceful with me. But if it's the secret to killing the cow, then I'll give it a shot on a separate save.

Well that worked. Apparently the "kill" option doesn't actually force you to kill him and you can just take his sword. Which destroyed that bovine with ease. I guess that was the secret!
