Wait, hold up, just switching over from gimp to inkscape. So when I'm finished I set up the DPI? I basically go >file >Export >dpi 300 i just make sure as I'm making the vectorized image that it's a factor of 300, yes?

Yes, but you typically don't want to export to a raster format if you intend to have the design printed, cut, or stitched. You'll want to keep it as some vector format — I'd suggest Save a copy… → PDF, or choose Plain SVG if the printer needs to edit stuff like colors.
