Get an f800gs

No. 600s are pretty fast but not uncontrollable rockets like everybody makes them out to be. The power comes on really controllably and they're even docile if you don't rev it out everywhere.
I kind of wish I got a liter...

A liter bike is more practical and will have more low end torque and linear power delivery

Why does anyone ever recommend a bmw?

bmws are terrible value here in north america
