There is still a very small boogie van subculture up here in southern BC with a band called La Chinga at the forefront. I've played a couple of shows with them, they're great dudes and a blast to be around. From a distance it would be easy to get the impression that they're trying to cash in on nostalgia but they're totally genuine, just looking to jam old school rock and roll and have a good time.
